World antiwar rallies delight Iraq Largest gatherings reported in London, Rome Sunday, February 16, 2003 Posted: 9:15 AM EST (1415 GMT)

SPECIAL REPORT

BAGHDAD, Iraq (CNN) -- Iraq was gloating Sunday over the global outpouring of opposition to a possible U.S.-led war against the country, saying the rallies by millions of people signaled an Iraqi victory and "the defeat and isolation of America."

In cities from Tokyo to Baghdad, Istanbul to Paris and New York to Wellington, the demonstrators Saturday called for peace a day after U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell told the U.N. Security Council that Iraq was defying U.N. resolutions over its weapons of mass destruction and must now face "serious consequences."

Iraq's tightly controlled news media gave prominent coverage to the rallies with television stations showing footage of millions marching in the world's cities -- under the logo "International Day of Confronting the Aggression."

"The world said with one voice: 'no to aggression on Iraq'," read a headline in the government daily Al-Jumhuriya. "The world rises against American aggression and the arrogance of naked force," read a front page headline in the army daily Al-Qadissiya, according to The Associated Press.

"These demonstrations expressed in their spirit, meaning and slogans the decisive Iraqi victory and the defeat and isolation of America," Al-Jumhuriya said in a commentary.

Iraq staged its own demonstrations on Saturday, when tens of thousands, many carrying assault rifles and portraits of Saddam Hussein, took to the streets of several cities to pledge their loyalty to the Iraqi leader in the face of U.S. threats to attack the Arab nation.

"My message to the United States is that it should hear the voice of the international public opinion," Aziz said Sunday, AP reported, before boarding a flight home from Rome's Leonardo da Vinci airport after a three-day trip to Italy. (Full story)

(shaking head) Unreal. Could you (the collective "you") imagine being in Iraq and only seeing the footage of all of those "people" protest against the "US agression". First, it would seem like the whole WORLD is against taking action and second, say you are one of those poor raped and/or tortured souls hoping for liberation from Saddam's regime-it would feel pretty crappy that those "people" are against helping you and yours. Humanity indeed.

Something I heard in the talking head din this morning was regarding whether or not the Iraqi commanders would surrender fast or not at all. If the Commanders think it's over and Saddam is dead, then they will likely surrender quickly.

But if they think at all that the US will lose its will like it did with the Kurdish uprising/Bay of Pigs/etc, then they would be fools to surrender, because Saddam will have them killed immediately.

So all this outpouring of anti-war sentiment must play heavily on the minds of the Iraqi Commanders in the field...If they think the US will back down, then they will have to fight harder.

I had never thought of it other than a high-level propaganda war. This leads me to se how the peaceniks are further endangering the lives of our soldiers, and those of the Iraqi soldiers, too.

You bet they are endangering everyone involved .. but they don't care .. because their hatred for President Bush runs to deep to see what damage they are doing

Where were all the protestors when Saddam Hussein invaded Kuwait, literally murdering, raping and looting at will?

More evidence of the complete moral bankruptcy of the political left. They could have chosen instead to demand, in the name of peace (and -- dare I say it? -- freedom), that Saddam and his regime step aside, that the Iraqi government cease violating the rights of its own citizens, that it disarm immediately, that it stop supporting terrorism. Instead, they chose deliberately to bash America and give aid and comfort to its enemies.

good point, but they arent nearly as jealous and envious of a thug as they are of the greatest civilization ever known to mankind, the USA. its a knee jerk reaction to hate the "big guy", in this case, the US. those protesters are nothing but angry drop outs, who are extremely jealous of our successes.

Saddam and the protestors share a powerful common bond: their hatred of the United States and their desire that the United States be destroyed. They are allies in this endeavor. As is France.

Even Madelyne Allbright didn't feel "safe" if America was the world's lone super power.

February 16, 2003: "World antiwar rallies delight Iraq."

November 8, 2001: World antiwar rallies delight the Taliban

Didn't help the Taliban much, did they?

According to the Antiwar.com website, "they" opposed the impeached Bubba Clinton's military actions. The difference here seems to be the publicity with which they get for their opposition to this war.

This is an antiBush movement. It certainly isn't a peace movement as they permit those who support Palestinian War to speak out at their events (the rallies had tried linking in American action against Columbia but that talking point has seemed to subside).

These are anticapitalist socialist-anarchists (the antiglobalist bunch).

Some of the protestors have rioted but that never got press nationally either.

The media is fanning the flames of dissent and are accomplices in this matter.

You'll see these rallies in Sydney, London, Rome, Paris and New York. But you won't see them in Moscow, Warsaw, Budapest, St.Petersburg or Prague. That's because these people have suffered under tyranny and understand well the price of freedom. These are the nations now backing the US because they have emerged from their night of oppression and they know the role of the US in their liberation.

Conversely, those fools now clogging the streets of the morally apostate west, have no concept, let alone experience of what is at stake here. Intellectually befuddled by their addiction to state subsidies of their slothful lives and drunk on television and movies, they are terrified, not of abandonment of moral principle or the capitualtion to thugs and tyrants, but of anything which might disturb their own selfish existence.

When the terrorists see this sort of thing they conclude, rightly, that the west is soft, corrupt and has no stomach for the fight. It increases their contempt and diminishes their respect for us.

It is definitely that, and with the help of some of the press (Reuters, CNN, etc.), Saddam is winning it. I don't think anybody could have anticipated, even a few weeks ago, how well organized these "peace protesters" - who are basically the same old "anti-globalization" folks, with a heavy dose of Islamic organizations and a scattering of fuzzy little useful idiots - would be and how much support they would get from the press.

Yesterday, millions of people across the world protested the potential US invasion of Iraq. Today, the world said that the next Hitler, who has already murdered over 1 million people, must be given more time to develop WMD. The man, who was either directly or indirectly responsible for the genocide of over 2,800 US citizen on 09/11, was given the Chance card to advanced to GO by the peace activist of the world.

Imagine that, peacenicks sticking up for a mass murderer who has violated his citizens Human Rights and has murdered them as well. What type of people protest the freeing of the other human beings from bondage by a man that would kill them for protesting in his country ? The same people who did not make a peep when Bill Clinton was setting world records for the number of arm deals in dollars and in pure numbers .

This so called peace movement is all about the politics of the world wide left. Eg. Imagine if John Ashcroft had surrounded an Eco Groups compound with DEA and FBI agents and then opened fire on the compound killing several men, women and children. Hell, if Bill Clinton would have used the same tatics that he did on the Branch Davidians of Waco on the terrorist that bombed the WTC in 1993 then we might not be in this situation rigt now..

It is obvious that the majority of US media outlets(CNN, NBC, CBS & ABC) support terrorism. Maybe it is time to declare war on them.

A profound point. Perhaps it is confusing to those who understand that America is free. They might not understand why an American, who lives free, would be against stopping a tyrant, who kills and oppresses. A very sad thing.
