But, Kirk kept violating the Prime Directive again and again and again...That clears it up. Point taken. Thanks.

Re:
Can you imagine Jim Kirk having a counselor on his bridge, let alone his ship!?!??
Jimmy would have had her between the sheets before she could say, "Why do you hate your mother?"

But it wasn't a present day PC mix -it was a conservative blend. Uhura, Sulu, Chekov, and Spock got there because they were the best at their jobs, not through the Starfleet affirmative action program at the expense of Kirk, McCoy, or Scotty.
I know that Roddenberry himself was a liberal, and the crew was mixed to show racial harmony and everything, but there was never any indication that any of the minority characters had not truly EARNED their positions.

Re:
I thought they only had one on TOS. Some of the press mentioned the change on "Enterprise". You sure?
Positive. I don't have any hanging on my hunting wall, but I would bet my life on it with the confidence of a Christian with four aces and a .45.

Get rid of all the political correctness. That was Roddenberry's dream
Far be it from me to defend Gene Roddenberry, but I do think there is a difference between his 1960's "equality of opportunity" liberalism and today's "group identity politics", or PC. The members of the Enterprise crew were indeed "diverse" but there is never any suggestion but that they were all supremely competent in their respective jobs. Also, there is no suggestion that they were hired to fill out a quota -- one Vulcan, one Asian, one African.
In short, Roddenberry's 60's liberalism is quite different from today's entitlement and reparations mindset. It is doing him a disservice to say that "PC" was his "dream."

Having T'Pol strip down for decontamination on a weekly basis instead of for the very first episode would work for me.

The Great Bird wanted the future of space to be sweetness and togetherness, but he knew enough about the real world (He was an LA Cop once) to know that never happens.

It's ideas like yours that sunk the franchise in the first place. Bergman put the series in a tail spin when he made that whiny janeway captain. PC nearly killed voyager, it was Ryans ta ta's that kept it on life support.

Just found a picture. I stand corrected.
You can substitute how the Borg are going to show up on "Enterprise" as an example of how I dislike Rick and Brandon's utter lack of respect for established ST history.
To: sonofatpatcher2
The original show succeeded because it was new (can't emphasize that enough) and because the actors where interesting and had a lot of character. They weren't wonderful actors (although much better than the current crop), but they where interesting.
All these spinoffs and derivations are trying to cash in on the Star Trek name but don't have what the old show had, and they are not new in any fundamental sense.

You win a cigar or a big kiss. Name your poison.
BTW: loose lips sink ships and make for very sloppy kisses!

Now, add Ashley Judd and Jerri Ryan into that mix and your've got gold, Jerry. Gold!

There was an interesting non-PC science fiction" show called "firefly" on not long ago. From what I hear is was canned precisely because it was not "agenda oriented" - they actually killed people and the bad guy was the super-state. I am hard pressed to think of a show that is not a platform for the left. Can you?
To: sonofatpatcher2
The best thing would be for Paramount to find someone other than Berman and Braga to run the franchise. Hell, let the editors of the book series run the franchise - they couldn't do any worse... (on the contrary - given the monster job they've done with the relaunch/continuation of DS9 beyond the end of the television series, I'd say they would have infinitely better ideas to continue the franchise effectively)

You want PC and still have a kick-ass commander? Make Worf captain of the ship;
"Captain Worf, the Romulan ship wants to negotiate a surrender."
Mr. Sulu, I negotiate with a fully charged phaser bank. Fire!"
Oh yeh, that's the ticket...

I beg to differ:
...that whiny janeway captain showed her steel by not once, not twice, but three times using her death to make things right. Review all the episodes, Janeway would eat Kirk, Picard and Worf for lunch.
As to Ryan's ta tas, they kept me on life support, too.
and to ...ideas like yours that sunk the franchise in the first place all I can say is opinions are like A-Holes, everyone has one.
And that's they way it should be. Imagaine a world if some had two-- Or three!
GAD!

But basically, it was to the original series as The Empire Strikes Back was to Star Wars -- technically superior, but weaker in narrative structure. What!? Empire is widely considered to be the best Star Wars film of them all. Maybe you're thinking of "Return of the Jedi"?
To: Batrachian
Here are my thoughts:
1. Civil unrest on earth after a Romulan cruiser destroys several cities on earth using WMD (the war is suppose to start soon). Several of the main characters lose family members.
a. The world on the brink of civil war.
b. Half the population of Earth needs a cure to
save them from a viral agent.
b. A massive military buildup starts.
c. Earth declares war on the Romulan empire.
d. Archer zips around trying to form a coalition
of the willing.
e. Massive give peace a chance rallies on Earth.
f. Vulcans refuse to get involved and must be dragged
into conflict.
2. Captain starts banging T'Pol.
3. Start using the stupid teleporter.
4. Conflict between Archer and Earth's military leaders.
To: BushCountry
Those are some great ideas. I doubt they'd ever fly, though. Too un-PC.
