Don't expect any criminal prosecution of the officer for this one. After all, police are allowed to kill or maim anyone without any personal consequences ever. The taxpayers might get hit for a substantial settlement, but the cop who did it? Never.

I seem to recall a few years ago, when several police officers were accuited of charges that they had beaten a gentleman named Rodney King, that the double jeopardy rule was tossed, and they were tried again, convicted and sent to jail.
This was 'without personal consequences'?
