Well I hate to rain on the parade but I was in the Marine Corps when 241 of my fellow Marines were slaughtered by terrorists in Beirut. Despite the tough talk by the Reagan Administration, not a damn thing was ever done about it.
That said, I am a big Reagan fan and think his presidency was very good for America. But this particular issue hits a nerve with me everytime it comes up.

"Well I hate to rain on the parade but I was in the Marine Corps when 241 of my fellow Marines were slaughtered by terrorists in Beirut." Dear Sir,
I'm sorry to hear about the loss of your fellow Marines. I just wanted to say "Thank you" for serving your country!

Who knows why that decision was made. I'm thinking that after Carter, the U.S. military was in no state to do anything about it. Maybe something else intervened too.

I too am a vet and we all lost friends in war. Thanks for your service and I'm sorry to have offended you.

Well, for one thing, Reagan got our troops the hell out of a situation where they were in harm's way, with no mission or means of defending themselves, and with no benefit to American interests. Not every President learns that lesson.

Yeah, whoever brought it up shouldn't have.
