February 25, 2003 -- WHAT to make of the fact that a Muslim extremist (or "Islamist") named Sami Al-Arian was arrested and indicted last week on 50 counts, among them conspiracy to finance terrorist attacks that killed more than 100 people - including two Americans? It is not, as Al-Arian claimed when federal agents led him away, "all about politics."

I don't believe it is, but that will not stop the usual suspects from claiming that it is!

In an interview circulated last week by NewsMax.com, Norquist asserted that Khan and Tulbah "were merely underlings carrying out decisions made by more senior White House officials . . . The people making decisions are Presbyterians and Catholics, not Muslims.' "

To think that "underlings" can't influence the decisions of their superiors is incredibly naive. I don't believe Norquist is that naive.

I ran out and just got the print edition of New York Post and it has a picture of Grover Norquist with this story.

Now I understand why the old seaman's practise of "women and children first" into the lifeboats was important. If there was a chance to be had of saving the ship, a crowd of women standing about questioning thing like "That's the second time the helmsman has turned hard to port -- can't he hold this boat steady?"

Until the Saudi money is not accepted under any circumstance within the Federal Triangle, within the Beltway, and in all but the fringes of US industry -- there are NO duplicate posts in this matter, imho.
