I have been trying since October 2001 to get someone to listen to my experience that happened in Big Bend Nat'l park along the Rio Grande in Nov 2000 when 6 or more carloads of very strict Muslims came along. Weird experience. The border was closed, and they were very agitated. They had a map and were going off down a trail like they were trying to find another place to cross the river. This was before 9/11 so I had no reason to be particularly wary of them, but they just gave off a very weird vibe. They didn't seem to be tourists. In any case, this is the short version. I've emailed columnists that have written about this exact Boquillas del Carmen crossing with no reply and many others that should have had an interest in hearing about it. So far, nothing.
