Union membership last year took its biggest drop since 1995, as companies in union-heavy sectors struggled to cut costs and boost productivity by operating with fewer workers.

The number of U.S. union members fell 1.7% in 2002 to about 16.1 million, or 13.2% of the work force, the federal Bureau of Labor Statistics said. In 2001, unions represented 16.4 million American workers, or 13.4% of the total.

Once we finish with the airlines, most of the unions will become non-exisitent or emasculated. To get rid of government workers, Bush's efforts to outsource hundreds or thousands of government jobs should help in that area.

The good news for all of this is that the unions will be short of cash to support their political campaigns, especially on non-economic issues.

Yes, government union membership outnumbers that in manufacturing by almost 3:1.
And union labor constitutes only 15% of the workforce in the manufacturing sector.
Yet globalist "free" traders will continue their quest to destroy our industrial infrastructure, and jeopardize our National Security, by hystericly hyping the antiquated paradigm that "it's all the UNION's fault."

You get the Union you deserive. The unions don't represent a hell of alot of people that weren't organized in the '30s. Organized Labor has destroyed as many jobs as the globalists.

I was an Assistant Busisess Agent in the IBEW during the transition from the Meany era to the Sweeny era. My family is Republican and active in the Labor Movement since the 1870's. The socalists drove me out and drove a good friend, labor lawyer, out. Unions have destroyed as many jobs as they have protected.

Labor unions are political; a workers party.

Communism presents itself as "the workers party".

Quite a coincidence, wouldn't you say?
