Yes. President Bush isn't wasting anymore of his/our time 'warning' Iraq's leadership; clearly he was addressing the Useless Nitwits.

Now lets take it one step further and get out of the UN.  While were at it get the UN out of the U.S..

If things go right this could be a big plus for America.

Well, next to my wish that there really was a Santa Claus (wouldn't it be great?!), is my wish that there was NOT a U.N. (at all, and certainly not in our country). For Heaven's sakes the kids today think we are governed by a U.N. charter, and don't even know what the heck the Constitution is. However, if i had to bet about the odds of the U.N. being dissolved...it's nevah go'in' to happen. Know why? One word--one name--that is: Powell. And, our State Dept., in general, wouldn't know what to do with itself without the Useless Nitwits.

Thank you so much! I missed the entire thing.

I was talking to my mom...and I'm sure you know how sometimes speaking to those we love takes the top spot over everything else!

I'm doing a little wishful thinking.:)

It has to weaken the UN though at the very least if we go without their approval.

I think it's high time we reassess just who are friends are and how best to work with them.  Far to many members of the UN are no friends of ours.

Without us and our support and money the UN is nothing.  Maybe they need a good spanking.:)

Without us and our support and money the UN still is nothing.

hmmm, come to think of it, without their parading their contemptuous smirks and sneers, and sucking face with the pariahs of all civilized societies, all over our sacred city streets, how else would we be so intimately familiar with their insidious and notorious plans to undermine the greatest nation earth? ;-)

That wouldn't change, they just wouldn't be doing it here.

Most are easy.  Take any third world country with a dictator and any socialist country like France and you have identified most of them.  Without much cost invloved either.

I didn't watch the speech; it was given in the middle of the night were I live, but reading the commentary and the transcript it is obvious that a lot of important things were done:

For antsy "cut the talk and just do it" types like me and most freepers he was saying once again, "Don't worry, I know what I'm doing." Just like he said before the November election blowout.

For Euroweenies he was being calm and reasonable in tone. This makes ChIraq's blasting about "dividing the world" seem terribly uncontrolled and over-heated. Who's talking reasonably, Bush — not ChIraq.

For those concerned about Iraq's future, i.e. Turkey, other M.E. countries and neighbors, and also Russia, he was saying "Iraqi sovereignty and territorial integrity." I could not help but remember something in another thread (www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/852557/posts) about Russia possibly allowing a "second" resolution to go through without veto —

"Margelov said he would like to see diplomatic options exhausted before military action is taken, and suggested the United States lay out plans for a post-Saddam Hussein Iraq before any invasion."

This is exactly what Bush did. The speech was written long before Margelov said this (I assume this is what he said and not just some reporters words put in his mouth) so someone almost certainly told him and his government to listen carefully to this speech. By the way, if Margelov actually said something like this, it is an encouraging sign that Russia is resigned to a Saddam/Baath Regime demise.

For the fence-sitters on the UNSC he was saying, "if you want to be part of an historic, real initiative for stability in the M.E. vote yes. If you want more of the fussing and uncertainty and tension we have now go with the french opinions. Bush flipped the equation around for them. A "yes" vote is no longer a vote for war while "no" is for peace. A "yes" vote for them can been seen as a vote for true stability. I think this will do it for them. Bush gets a "second" resolution which will stave off at least some of the worst of the leftist propaganda in the beginning stages. (It will come back eventually — leftist propaganda has been with us since V. I. Lenin was in diapers.)

I suppose there were other audiences, but these are some that cross my mind.

It is such a shame that the media has opted for ratings over reporting the news.

The last 18 months have been about very intensive diplomacy and realignment. The old order is challenged by terrorism and Bush has led us to affirm our ideals over self-interested "realpolitique". Old Europe looks bad protecting their deals with dictators IMO.

I have known that this grew out of an assessment of terrorism's role in the Middle East. I hope the harborers heard what he said. With troups in Kuwait and Turkey we are in a position to enforce the Bush doctrine in Iraq, Iran, Syria, Lebanon, etc. So, aiding and abetting terrorism just got a lot more dangerous.

The most spectacular coup would be a triumph of diplomacy backed up by the real threat of power. As long as there is hope on this front, we can keep our powder dry. Looks like a long shot, though.....unless this French, German, and Russian axis is really a ruse to keep Saadam off guard. After all, they are the countries that know what they sold him, and I think we know what they know.

The real story is so much more interesting than the drum banging the media has done about a march to war. Too bad we don't have smart, thoughtful journalists, any more.
