Sent Graham an email over the weekend. FReeped Frist's email last night :). Have also repeatedly emailed one of my senators, Dianne Feinstein, hoping she might be willing to see reason, living in a state with a huge Hispanic population. (Boxer isn't worth the effort!) Got my non-FReeper conservative dad to email Feinstein too! :)
To: mabelkitty
I should have thrown that one in also!
Pretty soon we we have all of them running
for cover, trying to figure out where the
next shell is coming from!!!
To: aristeides
You know, you're right, I'd heard that about Fortas and forgot about it. Apparently Rush did too :). Thanks for the correct info!
To: aristeides
Abe Fortas was successfully filibustered in 1968.
It was a bi-partisan filibuster, no Party was going to take a hit!
To: aristeides
What do you mean by successful. There was a "moral" issue attached to this guy and
both partiesbacked off.
Don't kid yourself, Hillary is keeping her guys in line with political "blackmail" AND the purse.
She's going to have to cut them loose or come up with better excuses. Notice only her and Schumer are making the "not enough info" complaint.

Thank you!!

Whatever the circumstances, it was still a filibuster. And it was successful in the sense that it scuttled the nomination of Fortas against the wishes of a majority of the Senate.

Back to work.
Thanks for the ping, Howlin.

its a filibuster the republicans are so confused about this that they are now spinning. They don't want a 24 7 for some reason!
The only way to win is 24 7 and yes its a filibuster

Abe Fortas was already on the court -- Estrada is not. The Fortas filibuster was for his nomination as Chief Justice. He remained on the court after the filibuster.

I'm from Georgia, and I'm happy to say that both my senators support Estrada -- including Dem. Zell Miller.
Thanks for the list of numbers. FReepers please keep calling!

Leahy speaking now!
Giving a perfect example of projection - blaming republicans for holding up the vote
We can practice our "mirror listening" skills: Reverse every statement he makes and we will know what he really is thinking!

I don't see why it makes any difference for the legitimacy of the filibuster that Fortas was already on the court and only his elevation was in question. The Senate was exercising the same advise and consent power that is at issue today for Estrada.

What Are the Rules and Procedures in the Senate?Go to the above link and a little ways down the page in the middle is the section entitled: "What Are the Rules and Procedures in the Senate?" ... In that section is a link to the Standing Rules plus other discriptive articles of Procedure or Processes, etc. They provide good layman's explainations of how things operate.
Good luck.

My state is 1 for 2. Graham has been VERY reluctant to comment on Estrada. I email him on it and he spends the first paragraph talking about the Columbia explosion...Basically, he's trying to use his surgery as an excuse to not comment on Estrada. FREEP HIM!
