While waiting..something to ponder...in case you haven't noticed...2004 will be the 10th anniversary of the GOP takeover of Congress ( except for the brief hiccup of Dem control in the Senate ). ..well, the 10th anniversary momento is traditionally tin, or aluminium..and since FR is home of the "tin foil" alerts....well...you get the idea....a badge of honor, perhaps.....

I hope a supporter of Estrada points out the similarities between Estrada's candidacy and Berzon's candidacy in 2000.
From FR: Dem, Leahy Double standard for Clinton's Marsha Berzon [9th Circuit] and Miguel Estrada.
The Democrats sure have a double standard. (And very, very short memories.)
Clinton's candidate for the 9th Circuit of appeals, Marsha Berzon, was confirmed (64-34)* by the Senate in 2000. Democrats got confirmation of Clinton's leftist candidate, but won't give Bush's candidate, Estrada, the same courtesy.
- Supporters of her said
We understand from her affiliations with liberal groups that she is probably on the left of the political spectrum, but that is the norm for this President's [Clinton's] nominees, and it does not mean that she will be an activist if she is appointed. - She graduated from Harvard (Radcliffe)
- she had no record,
- She had not been a judge
- She had had connections with far-left organizations
- those with reservations about her said, "only time will tell" [whether she would become an activist on the bench], and gave her the benefit of the doubt.
- **Leahy demanded a "vote up or a vote down" (which she got).
The Democrats don't only have a double standard. Democrats have a "whopper" of a double standard.

I have a question and would appreciate any-n-all Freeper feedback (and I've not read this thread so am not sure if the answer is already been posted, so please bear with me.)
If the Democrats continue to say that they are NOT filibustering the nomination, then why doesn't the Republican MAJORITY -- the one that's supposed to lead the Senate's business -- call for the vote on Estrada. If the DEMs are NOT filibustering, then there's no reason why they can't call for an up-or-down vote and be done with this. On the other hand, if they are filibustering, then why aren't the Republicans forcing them to come right out with it and get it on the record that the DEMs are, in fact, filibustering this nominee? (Appreciate any help on getting me straight with this.)

If you start the thread today, pehaps you could put the date in the title. If the future, it will help us find tidbits, and in the present, it will keep us from posting replies on "no longer LIVE" threads.

Dear friends,
the left-democrats have gotten quite used to manipulating our judicial system for social engineering. This is the only reason they are filibustering Estrada. It is the first time in the history of our Nation that a filibuster has been held for an appellate court nomination. Why? 2 reasons: because the Washington DC appellate court is considered to be the inside lane for appointment to the Supreme Court. And more importantly, because Estrada isn't a leftist democrat... and the Dems fear losing hispanic votes to the right.
What is most insulting to me (I am of hispanic ancestry) is the inference in this act that any group can be considered to be "in the Dems pocket" - and that their filibuster is done NOT for the good of the country, but for their own partisan (ie: for the ILL of the country) reasons. But much as I may personally abhor their position, there is something I can do to send them a message. I just did, and urge you to follow suit:
I urge everyone who is following &/or concerned about the Estrada Filibuster, especially Americans of Hispanic Ancestry, to write their senators and demand the filibuster be stopped. A good place online to do this is over at www.townhall.com - they've a hyperlink which allows you to find your representatives and email them (I'm from NY, so good ole Chuck Schumer got a note from me just a bit ago).
The truth is that yes, we CAN show these bozos our opinion of their jobs through our Votes - but I'm not willing to wait another 3 years to see my respective Senators (Schumer & Clinton... ugghhh) pull stunts that I'm not happy with, or that I think are not in the interests of the nation. So I wrote them, and I ask that you write your reps/sens as well... especially if they're Dems.
