Is Fox Losing its' magic?

Posted on 03/03/2003 8:05:01 PM PST by faithincowboys

I love Fox news, don't get me wrong, but don't you think they are fumbling the ball lately. Shep Smith really sucks-- he has been anti-Bush lately. Shep quoted Howell Raines' boy Nicholas Krstoff the other day. Doesn't it look like Hannity wants to beat up Shep every afternoon when Shep says some anti-Bush BS? Also, O'reilly pissed me off a couple of weeks ago when he went after Lynne Cheney like she was Hillary. Funny how the liberal pundits treat the evil Hill like she walks on water, and the so-called conservative O'Reilly was a pit bull with Cheney's wife. Anybody else notice this?

You and I were getting clobbered on that thread for saying that Fox should report facts. I remember that well!

Also, I have no idea what the hell a g-block is.

That one took me a while as well. I had to ask someone at work that knows street lingo. It's twofold apparently. G is like the hip, up to date thing, and it also represents the seventh block of the show which is also the seventh letter. Dumb I know.

Personally I'm getting a little tired of the rah-rah attitude on Fox. Along with the populist O'Reilly, Hannity has to be one of the most annoying people on the air. I only watch the morning show because it is a bit funnier and more relaxed than the other shows

Are your comments sincere or just disrupting?

Maybe Fox isn't perfect, but they sure as heck beat any of the competition.

You, and Mom, are free, of course, to scrape the bottom of the barrel and watch CNN or MSNBC, if you wish.

I thought ABC was the bottom

I am with you -- there has to be a change of staff -- producers perhaps. Not too long ago they were covering Michael Jackson all the time -- over and over again which is what drove me to MSNBC during the morning.

If you haven't noticed the preponderance of ex-MSNBC folks along with CNN that all over Fox, then go right ahead and keep saying Fox is the only channel to watch.

It's not the only channel to watch; it's just far superior to the rest. I really don't care about FOXNEWS' reporting of local stories in Atlanta or those God-forsaken missing person accounts. That stuff just goes past me. I don't care about it; I dont' remember the factual details of any of them.

I don't watch either channel at 9:00; I've never liked Susteren, and Scarborough is trying too hard to be like Chris Matthews. He's almost a parody.

I watch hockey in March and April; it's nearly the playoffs!

That's real nice of you to tell us we are allowed to watch MSNBC and CNN.

As a matter of fact, I do watch MSNBC at 9:00 to see the former Congressman Joe Scarborough! I will pit Joe Scarborough and his guests against anything Greta can have on her show. I personally liked seeing Sen Chambliss and Sen Lindsey Graham last week on his show.

I watch FOXNews mostly because I like the H&C show. Brit Hume, Tony Snow, Hannity and their guests are the best thing about fox. O'Reilly has gone downhill and the foxnews live babes always get their facts wrong. Geraldo is a serious impediment to any news organization's credibilty. If it weren't for Hannity I would skip the news channel and just watch fox news sunday on the local affiliate.

I don't mind at all that it's conservative. That is its selling point as far as i'm concerned. my problem is that they are trying to tone down. when MSNBC, abc, cnn, cbs, and nbc are all saying "republicans are racists" fox (except hannity)didn't go hard enough agaiinst the dems. the late phil donahue had a show "the republican party and race" where was the "democrat party and race special?"
even though the lott thing has gone away for now it has left residue. i think they don't get how skillful the other side is. i think they are in retreat, and it doesn't matter if msnbc is moving right (this week) the dominant media has done a hell of a job stoking anti-bush sentiment here and abroad. yeah, his polls are still high, but the lib media have caused them to come down hard.

You know what? We already have some filtered news reaching us, that's bad enough. We definitely don't need to be given speculations as if they were facts. Talk about mind manipulation!

" Can't stand fox news"

You know I can't stand them either. Ever since they hired Greta and garity and those other bozo'z from cnn and msnbc the show is really going downhill. This I believe was the liberals agenda, destroy fox news from within. Well, they are sure doing a good job of it as most of you are stating. Britt Hume's news is by far the best and I hope that segment is free of the "disease".

"I really don't care about FOXNEWS' reporting of local stories"

But you know what..if they're screwing up the local stories, we have to be cautious about the bigones too. They are my primary 'national' news station..but over the past 3-4 weeks, I've been more cautious when listening to their reporting.

Each segment of the show is titled with a letter of the alphabet. They call the segments 'blocks.' A block is made up of the time between each commercial break and is sometimes further broken down into smaller segments such as A1, A2, A3,...When Shep Smith refers to the "G Block" he is indicating that it is the seventh and last block of FOX Report. It is usually the segment in which he discusses entertainment and 'lighter' stories."

Y'all have to keep in mind that the function of a newscast is to generate revenue. They claim to be accurate, objective, whatever it takes to get and keep viewers. They get feedback in the form of ratings, which tell them what works, and what doesn't. I believe that those of us who post on FR represent a tiny sliver of thier audience. Sure, they'll take criticism and apply it, but only for the purpose of improving or maintaining ratings. Most of the public doesn't have the time or inclination (probably doesn't have the ability) to look up facts and form accurate perceptions of the world. The function of the news media is emphatically NOT to present an accurate world-view, and anybody who has that expectation is destined for disappointment.

Speculation as facts really bother me. Fox News seems to be doing more and more of that and then when they make a mistake they don't correct it or at least I haven't noticed.

Was always concerned that Murdoch owned Fox because I don't trust him as far as I can see! Just don't like the direction Fox has been going lately! Seems different!
