ISRA: Daley Proposal to Extend Sex Offender Registration Rules to Gun Owners Enjoys Support of Gov. Blagojevich

To: State Desk
Contact: Richard Pearson, Illinois State Rifle Association,

CHICAGO, March 3 /U.S. Newswire/ -- The following was released today by the Illinois State Rifle Association (ISRA):

The ISRA is calling upon state lawmakers to reject a plan to register Illinois gun owners in the same manner that sex offenders are cataloged. The proposal is part of a sweeping, statewide gun control program introduced by Chicago Mayor Richard Daley in mid-February. Governor Blagojevich has gone on record supporting the Daley gun control package -- including the gun owner registration scheme.

The gun owner registration requirements are contained in Senate Bill 1320, which was introduced this session by Daley ally Sen. Iris Martinez. The provisions of SB1320 mimic sex offender registration programs in that gun owners would be required to report to their local police stations on an annual basis for questioning regarding their firearms ownership. At that time, gun owners would also be required to sit for mug shots and be fingerprinted. If all goes well, and after the payment of a $25 fee, the applicant would be granted a one-year extension of his or her right to own firearms.

"Firearm owners from across the state are expressing their outrage over the proposed registration requirements," reported ISRA president Richard Pearson. "Daley's decision to lump hunters and sportsmen in with sex offenders shows the utter contempt he has for the state's 1.5 million law-abiding firearm owners. When SB1320 comes to a vote, we'll learn just who in the General Assembly shares Mayor Daley's views."

Since 1903, the ISRA has been the state's leading advocate of safe, lawful and responsible firearms ownership.

There are some who will say that if the state is going to treat you like a criminal, you may as well act as criminal, playing it for all it is worth.

This MUST get national exposure. The only way these gun-grabbing fanatics will back down is if they are publicly humiliated: their egos are such that humiliation is the only thing that is, to them, intolerable. To treat law-abiding firearm owners the same as child molesters is OBSCENE (but typical of King Richard II and his ilk). I am an Illinois firearm owner and I will most definitely be contacting my district representatives to voice my very strong opposition to this insulting piece of legislation. Good God! I am a veteran, having served four years in the US Air Force during Vietnam! And now I am to be treated just like a child molester????? I'll be damned if my service, and that of millions of other Americans, was for nothing, and that our socialist politicians have surrendered our freedoms on the altar of the unholy gods of tyranny and oppression.

I'm sure a lot of folks agreed with continuing supervision for people who already served their time. Now the concept is catching on to include folks who NEVER commited a crime in the first place. That's why they call it a slippery slope.

Governor Blagojevich has gone on record supporting the Daley gun control package

The puppet Blagojevich is dancing from the strings of his alderman father-in-law, which in turn is being controlled by Daley.

Just as I predicted in FR posts and LTRs to EDs, if you vote monkey-faced Blagojevich for Governor, you vote in proxy for Daley.

And by the way, a $25/yr fee is equal to $125 for the 5 year period a FOID is good for now. So much for Blagojevich's promise not to raise that.

Time for massive civil disobedience. If every gun owner in Illinois ignored this illegal law, the justice system would collapse under its own weight. I really hope Dick Daley's stupid enough to make it happen by pushing through that idiotic proposal of his upon gun owners.

Multiplied by the number of household members, since they should have FOIDs, shooters or not.

This idiotic scheme is a perfect example of the gulf that exists between rationality and the gun-control mentality.

Unfortunately, there are many of the unwashed masses out there who still watch CBS, NBC, ABC and CNN who will swallow this swill.

I'd either get out of Michigan or "guns, what guns" if that passed here. "gun offenders" list? Forget that.

That is correct, if we are to be treated and suspected as criminals then there is no incentive for us to obey the law. For instance, if mere possession of a gun becomes illegal, with felony consequences, and giving up our guns is not an option, then why not own all machine guns with silencers? Why not destructive devices? And what's going to happen when good citizens are cornered with their guns, knowing that to surrender is prison?

You were expecting decency from Democrat politicians ???? Democrats view you and me as peasants on good days slave labor on bad days !!!! And as far as they are concerned the Democrats in government can seize all of you paycheck & in their eyes you would STILL NOT BE A SLAVE! I personally think it is time to give the gun-grabbing politicians a new addition to their wardrobe a new suit of tar & feathers.

It occurs to me that the tax on guns that they are proposing unfairly burdens the poor.
