I read where 75 million people are involved in public "education" one way or another.

Where is the "is"

They decided to delete that word when the former President of the US couldn't define it. It just simplifies things for the Democrats.

Having a degree or being quallified to teach is not necessary to home schooling here in the states. All that is required(at the moment) is that the ciriculum used to home school meet requirements of the state, and be be approved by the state. We are personally using a combination of approved ciriculum for our 2nd and 7th grader, and are home schooling under the guidance of a private school. To ensure that our kids are indeed learning the required material, we have them tested at the end of every school year by a commercial testing center. We are high achievers and expect our kids to learn, and we will not accecept the social engineering crap that our liberial/ communist are promotting at the expence of our children! I have wittnessed the dumbing down of our society (via public education) and I refuse to participate in it. These liberals have succeeded in thouroghly dividing, confusing, and stupifying our culture in less than 30 years! I don't believe the system is salvagable. We are not financially able to send our kids to private school, but we are able to afford home schooling. That is why we have decided to teach at home. We know that no one will care more about our children than us; so who better to teach them. Besides, with the internet and all the resources available, time is really the only factor. Concerning "Socialization"; let me just say for the record that we are not hermits! But we are very discriminating in the "calliber"( not race) of people we associate with, and we can better control the influences of or children!

What is the background behind the phrase All your (word) are belong to us?

Some one set us up the bomb!

No, I didn't mistype that. You kinda, had to have been there to understand it. Maybe someone still knows how to find the original thread.

Oh, please! Tell me this is a joke. "Sit Al said the gal you have to sip it to the rim." What on earth does that mean? Where is the punctuation?

Last semester, when my dd was 14, I took her to the local community college to see if there was a class she'd like to take as a "dual enrolled" student (homeschool & college) -- she took the placement test, and the college requested that she attend full-time. Seems that she had the highest scores they had seen.

She is in Phi Theta Kappa now, with a 4.0 GPA and 30 credit hours. But then, we used McGuffrey for English reading, not Language!.

I just can't believe this...what a way to come back to Free Republic after a long absence...< shaking head in disbelief >

Here's an article written by a teacher in NYC's schools regarding a fuzzy math program he must teach to his increasingly confused students. These kids have to take high-stakes tests to go on to the next grade, and the city is giving them a math program that makes no sense to them or to the teacher who has to teach it.

My niece was saddled with this type of program in the fourth grade in her public school even after parent after parent complained about it. Her parents were fortunate enough to be able to remove her from the school to a private school with a more traditional curriculum.

Can anyone understand why students act out in class? They already know they are not going to get anywhere in life.
