South Korean officials claim that parts from a North Korean test missile have been found in Alaska. The American response to the claims has been muted.
The seriousness of Kim Jong-il's missile and nuclear program was a raised by South Korean delegation who recently visited America to discuss the situation with senators and congressmen.
It is reported that delegates were particularly disappointed in the casual way Democrats treated their concerns. Rep. Edward J. Markey, a Massachusetts Democrat and co-chairman of the Bipartisan Task Force on Non-proliferation came in for particular criticism.
Despite being fully apprised of the situation in North Korea and of the South's fears, Markey insisted that the only route to peace was to appease Kim and buy him off with free food, medicines, cheap energy and credits and hope he would give up his nuclear ambitions.
That this had been Clinton's policy and that it resulted in Kim being able to threaten the South with nuclear weapons made no impression on Rep. Markey who made it clear that he believed that there was no alternative to appeasement.
Some of the delegates had already been briefed on the political history of Markey and other Democrats and had therefore anticipated his appeasement stance. They knew that throughout the Cold War Markey had always counseled appeasement and strongly opposed Reagan's anti-Soviet policy and military build-up.

That this had been Clinton's policy..
Isn't this one of the reasons we are in this mess anyways?

Yep. klintoon and dimbright have left cow paddies all over the place. Now Pres. George Bush has to clean up the mess. Thank God for GW. Let's Roll. Parley

Markey wouldn't have a clue even if a "No Dong" flew into his anal orifice

The Dems' views of Kim are simple: Keeping giving in to blackmail and extortion, and hope the problem goes away.

The South Koreans are the biggest appeasers of all.
I mean they only live right next store, yet they refuse to take a stand.
They want us to bail them out while most of their country wants the US gone.
Can't have it both ways, it's time for them to put up or join the DPRK.

The Democrats never met a problem they didn't want to throw money at.
I feel for the South Koreans who came all the way over here, just to be disappointed by the Dems. At least I can be disappointed in the comfort of my own home. Imagine flying all the way across the Pacific, just to listen to Markey's ramblings. I'd be downright furious.

Malarkey is indeed a typical Rat -- toss cash at the problem and hope to appease it.
Most So. Koreans probably know that the Bush administration isn't going to play that losing game. If enough of them keep nurturing their disdain for American Democrats, perhaps we should grant them citizenship.

Unfortunately, it's not just the libs throwing the term "appeasement" around. I actually heard the allegedly "brilliant" Conservative, Charles Krauthammer, use the very word on FNC last night. People need to get a grip and understand that the Punk of Pyongyang will only be emboldened to new and more daring provocations if he hears the "A" word. KJI has a pronounced survival instinct, and knows that once the first overt act of war occurs, his "reign" ends. "Benign neglect" now, followed by a full-throated response once Iraq is done.

That, by the way, is the Bush Administration policy, for the moment.
To: pawdoggie
Unfortunately, you are correct.

Good post. I wouldn't have known about this otherwise. BTW, I would think that this Korean delegation certainly also talked to some Republican politicians and officials.

I'll just bet you haven't read about the huge pro-America rallies they've had lately! There are quite a lot of supporters for America in S.Korea still!

We've had big Anti-War rallies here, does that represent the majority of opinion? the government's position?
NO!
Let's be honest the South has appeased and will continue to appease. They should open a city in the South called Paris.
