I grew up in West Garden Grove and remember a few years back when the Little Saigon community lay seige upon a communist sympathizer who refused to take the communist flag out of his store window.
I also shook George W. Bush's hand in Little Saigon in October of 2000.

There was a big Vietnamese rally in Westminster last weekend; RVN flags. American flags. "WE SUPPORT PRESIDENT BUSH".
It gave this Vietnam vet chills. Such sadness and loss gives way to such inspiration. I am so glad and proud to have been part of that great enterprise. I believe we yet will have won the Vietnam War!

I remember years ago standing in a department store's check-out line. Ahead of me in the line were two Asian women--each woman had her children with her. One woman turned to the other and said, "Are you Vietnamese?" The other woman replied, "No, I'm Cambodian." With that, they started chatting about their children and exchanged tips about shopping, etc. It suddenly struck me that this is what America is about. Seldom have I felt more like an American than at that moment standing in a check-out line when I overheard those two foreign-born woman talk about their children.

Inside.. GARDEN GROVE, California City Council Chambers-
'Calif. city bans communist Vietnam flag at functions' (Reuters, March 12, 2003)
"A California city with a large Vietnamese population has voted to fly the flag of the defunct Republic of South Vietnam instead of existing communist Vietnam's at city functions, much to the dismay of state officials who want to expand ties with the Southest Asian nation.
The city council of Garden Grove in Orange County unaminously approved a resolution late Tuesday after hearing from about 200 impassioned supporters.
The measure instructs the Garden Grove school district to teach students that the yellow banner with three red stripes, which flew over South Vietnam until it was overrun by communist forces in 1975, is the symbol of Democratic Vietnam."
"A similiar proposal floated last month by the Virginia legislature drew angry protests from Hanoi, and was quashed by the U.S. State Department, which informed Virginia lawmakers that the president has sole power to conduct foreign policy."

A true warrior is one who fights for freedom's sake!
I was watching something on C-SPAN yesterday and the House of Representatives brought up this bill in regards to Celebration of Patriots Day.
What I want to know:
Is this "Celebration" going to have more symbolic meaning than the Fourth of July, Independence Day? I mean what are we really fighting for? Security or Freedom? One can't have security and expect to still have freedom. One of them has to go.

Sarge I'm just so darned proud of you right now.
While far too many people have simply shrugged & walked away & forgotten you never waivered for an instant, you
never forgot.
Your faith & perseverence paid off.
The Garden City CA residents who're former Vietnamese patriots -- today many of which are United States citizens -- can express how they really feel about the sell out of their beloved nation all those years ago.
They didn't forget nor did you & neither have I -- thanks almost entirely to you -- Ron.
Simply outstanding, my friend.
The insideous communist reds may have won *a* "battle," but they certainly never won the war.
You did.
...this Bud's for you. ;^)
