East County Gas Station Charging $4.29 A Gallon Price Is More Than Twice the National Average
POSTED: 7:04 p.m. PST March 12, 2003
SAN DIEGO -- A Texaco station In El Cajon is charging more than $4 for a gallon of gas, and it's no mistake.
The station's current price for a gallon of premium unleaded is $4.29. That's more than double the national average, and about $2 more than the station across the street.
At $3.19 a gallon, regular unleaded is slightly cheaper.
One of the Texaco's employees, Danny, said that he was just following the owner's orders by charging the steep prices.
"We're not trying to rip off any customers or anything, " said Danny. " It's just, I don't know, we're told to change the prices, and we change them. There's a reason behind it, but I don't know what that reason is."
Danny told us business has dropped drastically since the drastic price hikes.
In fact, the Texaco only had one customer on this morning.

Good. The dems, who have prevented exploration and drilling, should get the blame.

One of the Texaco's employees, Danny, said that he was just following the owner's orders by charging the steep prices. Sure, they beat up on "Danny," the pimple-faced pump jockey. Did they make any attempt to contact the station owner, or ther person in charge of actually setting the price?
What lazy journalism.

This article reads like it was written by Michael Moore.

If I owned the station I would crank it up to $50/gal but offer a hooker with each fill up.

I was just thinking of the promotion angle. Hookers, pumps, fill ups, endless fun for the advertising side :)

One of the more printable ones: "The $50/gal. Gal!"

East County Gas Station Charging $4.29 A Gallon Price Is More Than Twice the National AverageBoy, this will get the lib's panties in wad!! I can hear the squeals now, calling for Grand Jury investigations. The owner should get a medal for giving an example of that great capitalist mantra "Caveat Emptor" (let the buyer beware).

I saw this on the news yesterday. From what they showed, they station was busy with people getting gas. (Must had taped folks at another station.) They didn't mention that there was a station across the street that was $2 cheaper. They didn't mention that they only had 1 customer that day. I'm glad I got a straight story about it.

....the Texaco only had one customer on this morning Econ 101 --the higher the price the less the demand.
