Legal Error, Not Immunity, Prevented Sudden Checks of Facility for Decades
The National Zoo has been subject to unannounced inspections by the U.S. Department of Agriculture for decades, despite previous assertions that the Smithsonian facility was legally immune from the scrutiny of federal animal welfare inspectors.
The unannounced visits were never done because of a misunderstanding of federal animal welfare laws, Alisa Harrison, the USDA's press secretary, said yesterday.

But don't they have editors at that paper?I would think so, but with some of the trash that I've seen passed off as "professional journalism" these days, sometimes I really wonder.
