"Jewish leaders say that while they are supportive of President Bush because he has been a reliable ally of the Israeli government, they have become increasingly fearful of a backlash if the war goes badly."

Cowards like that are not leaders. Lets face it, the minute Saddam gets a nuke, he will toss a coin as to if he takes out New York or Tel-Aviv first. Either way, alot of Jews will be dead from it.

Leaders stand up for what is right.

I read this article and then had the feeling as though I were in a time warp; it was Berlin in the nineteen thirties and German-Jewish factotums were discussing Hitler and what to do about him.

But some Jews are increasingly concerned about the lack of widespread international support for a pre-emptive strike, and skeptical that the United States can create a stable post-war government in Iraq.

Ask the Jews if they like the sharp increase in anti-semitism in Europe?

Should they give a damn what the international community thinks?
They more than any other group should have no confidence in any government except their own!

I am tired of hearing How the World/USA stood by while Hitler was persecuting the Jews

Because here in the most powerful country in the world with the most freedom in the world they are AFRAID of a backlash

The liberal Jewish groups weren't afraid of any backlash when they were in the FOREFRONT against the Vietnam War and when they were in the Forefront AGAINST every major miltray weapons upgrade and was undertaken

This bizarre, continuing belief in "internationalism" is contradicted by the public facts that have emerged over the past decades: the US is the only reliable friend that Israel and the Jewish people have (with an occasional Brit and Australian). If they relied on Europe and (God help us all!) international organizations such as the UN where Libya chairs the "Human Rights Committee" and Iraq co-chairs the "Nonproliferation Committee", there would not be an Israeli (and probably few Israelis) left.

I guess Jews, in the eyes of the Gray Lady, are like Blacks and Hispanics. They are "protected persons" and are not allowed to have individual opinions. They must accept the views assigned to them by the editorial board of the New York Times.

From the article: Most Christian denominations have taken a stand against going to war.

Oh, really?

Only if you count the fallen, apostate, liberal messes that some denominations have become. The rest of us know that we are on the right course, and don't want to see 1938 all over again.

Richard Land, the head of the Southern Baptist Christian Life Commission, has spoken forcefully about the need to depose Hussein.

We've heard the phrase "never again" since WW2. Obviously, many Jewish leaders don't take these words as seriously as does most of the Christian community.

Rabbi Schorsch said in an interview that he believed that North Korea was a greater threat than Iraq, that Al Qaeda's fortunes would not fall with Iraq's, and that the United States had "gravely weakened the institutions of internationalism so painstakingly erected after the Second World War."

Unfortunately, the "institutions of internationalism" have long ago become institutions of anti-Semitism.

they have become increasingly fearful of a backlash if the war goes badly.

The only people slamming the Jews currently is the global Left, not the right.

What a bunch of cr-p this is, that the Jews are causing the Iraq war. When Clinton swung the 7th fleet into the Taiwan Strait to send a message to China after they conducted some fairly agressive war games, did "Taiwanese Americans" catch heat for it? We will go to war with China, which has nukes, over Taiwan. Is that the fault of the "insidious Taiwanese lobby?"

"The only consensus we could come to was that there is no consensus," said Hannah Rosenthal, executive director of the Jewish Council for Public Affairs

If a Democrat were now in the WH, there would be a nearly 100% consensus for war.....guaranteed. Partisan loyalty - as opposed to loyalty to principles - is blinding these people.

Here is an Israeli poll from December - 61% support a war, 33% oppose. Why are the American Jews more afraid of Saddam? Or do they have their loyalties totally mixed up?
