WASHINGTON -- War precipitates clarity as well as confusion, and the war against Iraq already has clarified this: The United Nations is not a good idea badly implemented, it is a bad idea.
For France, and for the U.N. through which France magnifies its own significance, the objective of disarming Iraq, if ever seriously held, has been superseded by the objective of frustrating America. And for America, the imperative of disarming Iraq will soon be supplanted by the imperative of insulating U.S. sovereignty from U.N. hubris.

Throw the UN out. Surely the real estate can be used for something with a better purpose. I understand the Yankees will be requiring a new stadium shortly.

Turn the building into a co-op. See if the Board will approve France. : )

I'm with MadIvan, looks like a good location for a new Yankee Stadium. Will make for really great news footage when the UN building is imploded.

I say rent the UN building cheap to corporations who lost office space on 9/11. Then put the INS on the top floors of the new WTC.

One of the things that the UN causes is a disconnect with logical actions of otherwise intelligent officials. Why else would we be wasting our time trying to negotiate with nations that for different reasons do not feel it in their interest to attack Iraq? France, Germany, China , and Russia have commercial interests threatened and in their judgement it would threaten their national interests. Trying to consolidate all interests in to a set principle is foolish and can only be accomplished by some nation suffering the consequences of the action.
The only way this is practical is through dictatorship where national interests are forsaken for the common(so called)good. This is the reason that playing around with the UN, WTO, NATO, NAFTA, and other mulilateral agreements are not in anyone's interest if he enjoys his freedom. GET OUT OF THESE AGREEMENTS AND PLAYING WITH FIRE. ALL WE HAVE TO GAIN IS OUR LOSS OF FREEDOM!

Sadly, Bush is like his blue blood daddy. You heard him today- he has big plans for the UN in the future. The new world order at the UN is going to happen. Bush has a perfect excuse to get rid of it. Instead, he sees the globalist vision and the UN is going to be a big part of that whether you like it or not.
Pres. Bush, despite his act, envisions world government. That is why he is willing to make himself look incompetent trying desperately to make the UN a credible institution. Don't you see it?
He is not a conservative. I'm sorry to say that. Blind Bush followers can flame me but its true. You heard him- big plans for the UN. That says it all.

You seem to forget that we dont own the building and we dont own the land. Its sovereign territory of the UN. It's not even part of NYC.

"GET OUT OF THESE AGREEMENTS AND PLAYING WITH FIRE. ALL WE HAVE TO GAIN IS OUR LOSS OF FREEDOM!"
The power brokers are well aware of this. That's the idea - to make us all serfs in fact if not in name; busy worker bees serving the mighty few.
When the time comes most Americans will see nothing wrong with handing ourselves over to the UN. Truly sickening.

Reading your opinion, I believe you wear flame a retardant suit, or should when you post here.
You are entitled to your opinion, and I respect it. I'm also glad your 3rd party can't get a convention together.

. Then put the INS on the top floors of the new WTC. LMAO!
If nothing else, the charade for the last few months has made it clear to thinking Americans that we can no longer tolerate the UN in its present form. I'd support the WHO, as nasty outbreaks of disease need to be tracked worldwide.
But for any other good the UN does, the overwhelming costs outweigh the benefits. We'd be better off taking the billions we give them and spending directly on humanitarian aid.
We'd be creating jobs for Americans too...plenty of jobless workers would be willing to sign on for a year of modestly paid charitable work distributing food and blankets to the world's needy. They'd be citizen diplomats too, creating good will for the USA everywhere they went.
