(CNSNews.com) - The commander of the American Legion says President Bush has done everything possible to disarm Iraq peacefully, and now it's time to face facts - freedom and security are worth fighting for. Ronald Conley, the national commander of the world's largest veterans organization, is urging Americans, at this critical time, to show support for Americans in uniform. "Show your colors once again by flying the American flag with pride," Conley said in a press release. "Join with others in prayer for those in uniform. Look for Blue Star Service Banners in home windows everywhere," he said. He called the Blue Star Service Banners a "rekindled tradition that reminds us that the war on terrorism touches every street and country lane in the land." Although no one wants war - least of all the veterans who have seen it up close - Conley said veterans understand that war is not always avoidable. In a letter to President Bush, Conley wrote: "The American Legion kneels with you and those in uniform and stands beside you, shoulder-to-shoulder, for God and country."
