It's been U.S. policy for decades that if WMD's were used on us, we'd respond in kind. Here's where the rubber meets the road where that's concerned, it looks like. I don't believe that's the case. I believe the US has stated it would respond with overwhelming force, or words, phrases, concepts to that effect.
