There's no grand centrally-controlled world conspiracy run by either China or Russia moving everyone that is evil around like chessboard pieces. It's a FR fantasy.

People believed this in the 60s, at the very same time Russia and China were involved in large-scale land combat against each other over a border dispute. People like the idea because it neatly simplifies the world, and people like simplicity.

There are plenty of nasty, evil people out there. At times they cooperate when they have common interests. Russia and China both sell a lot of weapons because they need the money, primarily.

But if you believe the "giant world conspiracy" thing you miss opportunities to divide and conquer enemies.
