First Girl Lost in the War
The Sun ^

Posted on 03/27/2003 10:53:26 AM PST by Dirk McQuickly

A PRETTY 19-year-old country girl who joined the US Army to escape unemployment was feared to be the first woman soldier to die yesterday.

Blonde Jessica Lynch was among 12 soldiers in a US supply convoy ambushed by Iraqi troops.

Her parents were left weeping like others in America and Britain as more Coalition victims of the war were identified.

Supply clerk Jessica was feared dead after five survivors from the ambush were paraded before Iraqi TV cameras in sickening footage beamed around the world on Sunday.

Also shown were the bodies of the other seven members of the 507th Maintenance Co convoy, but Jessica’s parents could not identify her among them.

Her father Greg Lynch said: “The only thing they can tell us is she’s missing.

“I just want them to bring her back safely — her and all the rest of the kids.”

There's no proof that Jessica Lynch is dead; DoD lists her as Duty Status Whereabouts Unknown (DUSTWUN) and the media is calling her Missing in Action (MIA). She was driving the 5-ton truck, according to her father, Greg Lynch. While some of her fellow soldiers were segregated out and executed, others taken before cameras as POWs, she was not among them. Her fate is undetermined and the British Sun is the only paper reporting such speculation that she's dead. There is NOTHING out there to substantiate her death.

Shoshana Johnson was the first woman taken POW. No one has confirmed either of these women are dead or still POWs.

We have to keep in mind that the Sun is comparable to the NY Post or the Enquirer. Anything for a headline, regardless of who's side is involved.

She is still listed as missing--we can hope and pray she will return home to her family.

Sometimes death might be preferable....the thugs who captured her are animals....if they expect to go out blazing, well, we can pray for her....

That's correct. And while there was a 300+-message thread regarding this pretty young woman, there has been no equivalent thread on Shoshanna, who is a 30-year-old black woman. Just noting.

Negative MM.

The capture of Shoshanna was the first thing to hit this forum about women in combat and was argued over intensely for two days nearly before the notice on the younger girl came out...oddly even though they both went missing at the same time. I suppose because the black mom was shown captured on film.

Nice try again linking gender discrimination with race discrimination.

We know that Shoshana was at least still alive a few days ago from the tape. We have no idea on Jessica.

I pray both survive.

>>>300+-message thread regarding this pretty young woman,

I missed that thread. This is the first post I saw on this girl. However, I was on the message thread about Shoshanna. So let's not imply any 'notings' ok?

I have been thinking about her fate for days. What I am thinking is not good. I pray for her.

Maybe it's because we know what has happened to Shoshauna but, we do not have a clue about Jessica. It has nothing to do with race.

And I missed the Shoshanna thread. My error.

I can't reconcile myself to putting our young women in harm's way.

I'm with you. When I see women in the military - I become enraged. Men should NEVER let women fight their battles. I understand that women want to serve their country, and they did it the right way in WWII with the WACs and the WAVES.

The only military role a woman should have is behind a desk or as a doctor or nurse - far behind enemy lines and not on naval ships!
