Kofi didn't have to leave the continent that birthed him to stir his concern up to dizzying heights. I can't remember to what country Kofi owes allegiance but it being on the continent of Africa I am pretty confident that he wouldn't have to cross any borders to locate numerous humanitarian casualties.
