Baghdad has 100's of miles of tunnels underneath...

A fun little project for a couple of mobile robots with cameras.

One of the national engineering organizations used to run a contest to design a little "mouse" that could poke its way through a maze twice -- first time to map out the maze, second time for speed.

That was a maturing technology at least 15 years ago (coming up with a mapping algorithm is a worthwhile project even for a single CompSci student); I would imagine that somebody somewhere in industry or in the military by now has a unit that could go into an arbitrary maze-ish area and map it out quite nicely.

I am reminded of the eternal echo from beneath O'hare.... "Please look down. The moving sidewalk is about to end"

In London's Tube, it's "Mind the Gap!"

"perhaps there's a secret sub that runs from the palace to the airport"

One he could escape in?
Like a "yellow" submarine?

( well, it fits ) ;)

I think that perhaps our leadership has more in mind right now than causing some amusing ruckus in Baghdad.

One would certainly hope so. At least as far as the amusing portion goes.

Besides, our primary enemies in Iraq aren't religious.

Yeah, I've read about that on the internet.

Did you? I've heard it discussed at length on Fox News. Saddam and the Ba'ath party are fascists, and non-religious. They don't shrink from using religion to suit their ends, but they are liars in this, as in everything else.

Has Snopes.com issued an "Undetermined." status rating for that yet?

I have a bad feeling about this. The Iraqi's get rid of Al Jazeerah and all other outside media, they take reporters to the airport to "prove" that there is no one there, the lights go out, we take the airport, they send their own people to the airport . . . I'm afraid that it looks like they may go ahead and use those WMD on both us and their own people at the airport in the dark without any media coverage and then try to spin it and sell the other arab nations propaganda to the effect that WE did it. Hearing the Syrian prime minister today I know that he would believe them, no matter what the facts say.

You aren't alone in your thoughts. I think they have nukes.

If we're talking tunnels here, you can't beat the one between the terminals at Detroit Metro.

Moving sidewalks, of course. But then there's this eerie 800-foot light show surrounding you, with cool 'music from the hearts of space.' I guess it's supposed to make you go through a rebirthing experience or something, to calm you down after your bout with airport security.

Brian Williams was talking to General Meigs after a discussion with a General at CENTCOM that said there are tunnels all under Baghdad.

Has the good General heard what Hizzoner II did to his airport a few days ago? If so, I presume he was not in a good mood.

Still wishing we had some of that gas the russians used in the theatre.

Ah, yes. Putinium.

Yep, I think you're right about a coup...

But against who? By who? Inquiring minds want to know. I did note that there seemed to be alot of vehicular traffic around 12-1 AM, compared to the same time on recent nights. but there now that the sun is up, there seems less than there has been the last few days at this time.

I said on the first day of this war that Saddam left the country headed for France. He is too big a coward to go down with the ship.

Why would they bother to ship the greasy spot to France? OTOH, maybe he left for Paris as soon as GW called him out?
