Precisely.

BTW, we are having a "support the troops" rally in DC on 12 April.

'Pod dangles carrot: Ann Coulter will be there. < broad hint> ;-)

The pastor – a Vietnam veteran – was invited to give the prayer by Republican Sen. Alex Mooney. Hughes was Mooney's fourth guest. The other three were Jewish rabbis.

They are not Jews, and certainly not "rabbis". There are thousands of devout, worshipping Socialists who infest among Jews. In NYC they have gay synagogues, Communist synagoges, etc. They can call them whatever they like...they are not Jewish houses of worship. No self-respecting Orthadox rabbi would ever object to such a Christian prayer, just as no true Christian objected to hearing prayers spoken at the Challenger service read in Hebrew.

I always found it fascinating that the Father of the "Wall of Separation of Church and State" took a pair o scissors and cut out of his bible any references to the Deity of Christ.

The Smithsonian has that bible.

They don't pray to the Messiah, they pray to God Himself, "Our Father, Our King." It is the same God. Frankly all this fuss is foolish, while the world is the way it is.

By I have a meeting to attend, sorry. Thanks for the thought, though, and good luck.

Senators were really "offended" hearing the name of Jesus?

Certainly not, and ILlbay stated that explicitly.

Please read his/her posts before making this allegation.

That's absolute BS, this country was founded on CHRISTIAN principles.

Who came first? Jews or Christians?

Seems like the founders were trying to avoid the debate above when they decided to create a secular government.

Thank you for that perspective.

I am just curious: could you tell us whis of these principles were Christian, to which the Jews do not subscribe?

(I think that YOnif misspoke and meant to say that this country is based on Judeo-Christian values).

Given the streangth of your emotions about this rather subtle subject, things must be very clear to you, so please explain.

You would say this even though you were making a prayer to a group of people which had Jews in addition to Christians?

I try to be tollerant of other religions...however if asked to pray, I will pray as my Lord commands, and if that is offensive to others, well, they're offended by Jesus, not me.

I'm just following my faith, according to the commands of Jesus.

If I were in a Moslem country, and breaks were made in community or business meetings, in order to pray to Allah (where they always say Mohammed is His prophet--something as a Christian I 'm sure is wrong) would I be offended? OF COURSE NOT...SINCE THESE PEOPLE ARE MOSLEMS AND THAT'S A PART OF THEIR RELIGION.

By the same token, Jews should not be offended by Christians, praying AS CHRISTIANS. Christ is a part of our identity... I'll never be an Xtian!

Tollerance is a two way street and if you live in a place where a large number of people claim a particular religion, you better not be offended by it, or else you're going to live a pretty unhappy life.

Actually, the priesthood was corrupted by Roman rule, and it led to the inception of rabbis before the dispersion. The New Testament mentions one by name, Gamliel, grandson of the Rabbi Hillel who was well known in his day.
