"No one ever told me what the War Plan was, but I knew it would fail. No one has told me what the Peace Plan will be, but I know it will fail too."
Leftists are fun.

Only the UN can confer "legitamacy," on the new Iraqi government. Kind of like how the Un and the Clintons did in Haiti ?

Here was my comment on a Maureen Dowd thread the other day:
More to the point, since all her (and her colleagues') dire predictions about Bush and this war have been emphatically contradicted by actual events, she now has to chide the administration about things she thinks will occur. It's her version of "if you can't beat 'em, join 'em". She can't bring herself to "join 'em", so she is now going with "if you can't beat 'em, criticize something they haven't done yet, and set the bar so high they will never be able to succeed again."
Seems to me we're already seeing this phenomenon, as this article makes clear.

The ever-helpful Jacque Chirac, president of France, has pointedly said in recent days that only the United Nations has the authority to conduct postwar activities in Iraq, and only the U.N. can confer "legitimacy" on a new Iraqi government. Since the UDA defines "postwar" Chirac is whistling up his exhaust pipe.
Legitimacy of a government is conferred by being officially recognized by other Governments. The U.N. has nothing to do with it.
