I hope I dont run afoul of the mediators, but Freeper Excuse My Bellicosity posted a link to The Navy Newsstand website on a different subject. I followed it and got to poking around, and its a great site.
I wanted to let Freepers know about it, I hope it deserves its own thread.
I found homecoming pictures of our troops and of President Bush from the USS Lincoln yesterday. They're all great pictures and come in small, larger, and huge "download" size.
There are several different galleries, I found the Homecoming and Presidential pictures at:
http://www.news.navy.mil/view_photos.asp
The Presidential pictures arent all grouped together, so be sure you go through several pages of the gallery to find them all.
Enjoy!

Question: I watch his press conference last nite and wondered who the military guys were in the multi-colored shirts? Anyone know? They stood out like sore thumbs against the rest of the same-dressed military.
Nice landing, Mr. Pres!

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/904041/posts Thanks, I have seen and saved these pictures.
The pictures at the site I posted about are different and better(?) pictures, and in the "download" size, they are about 10 times larger.

How the heck did an ANG F-106 jock get 2000 hours total time to qualify for Senior Pilot wings?

I think the different colors are used to identify different groups of crew members on the flight deck of an aircraft carrier.

On the flight deck each different colored shirt designates a different responsibility or job. The brightly colored shirts prevent accidents by leaving no doubt about who is who when viewed from inside an airplane or from a distance.
I think it was kind of a color guard ceremony for the President yesterday.

Those are the flight deck and plane crews- each shirt has a different job:
Purple Shirt- Fuel (Ships Company)
Red Shirt- Ordinance (Squadron)
Yellow Shirt- Taxi and move planes (SC)
Green shirt- Plane mechanics (power plant, airframe, avionics etc.) (Squadron)
Brown Shirt- Plane captain/ line crew (chains, chocks, etc.) (Squadron)
White Shirt- QA/LSO (Squadron)
(I was a brown shirt)

ON a carrier flight deck, all personell are color coded according to job function.
Red=Weapons
Yellow=Aircraft control (Taxi)
Green=Catapult
Blue=Tiedowns
Purple=Fuel
White=Safety
Silver=Fire/Emergency
Brown=Aircraft Chief

Cool very cool. The military love him just like they loved President Reagan, maybe even more. President Reagan would be very proud of President Bush.
