i've been to giza and chichen itza. I didn't get the impression they had anything to do with each other.
also, how else are ancient cultures going to make tall structures without steel? if they didn't make pyramids, they would have just crumbled.
the real question is that if they are so advanced, why do their buildings look like structures made by 4 year olds in a sand box

The answer is complex. For one set of ideas, read the "The Secrets Of The Great Pyramids" by Peter Tompkins. The mathematics incorporated in to the structures is quite complex.
