What Happened to the NAACP Boycott of South Carolina?

Some time ago, the NAACP declared a boycott against the state of South Carolina, as I recall, because of the continued inclusion of some Confederate symbology in the state flag.

Is that boycott still in effect, and, if not, when/why did the NAACP end it?

If that boycott is still in effect, has the NAACP made any recent statements regarding the democrat debate, last night, in South Carolina? If the democrats have violated an established NAACP boycott and all nine candidates "crossed the line," doesn't this simply let us more about democrat hypocracy and their views regarding blacks in this country?

The NAACP Boycott continues. However it wasn't about Confederate symbology in their State flag, it was about a Confederate battle flag flying on the Statehouse dome.

After dueling protests, a "compromise" was reached. The flag would come down off of the Statehouse dome and go to a more appropriate location at the Confederate memorial on the Statehouse grounds. This way the flag would be in its historical context and could not be confused with being a protest of Civil Rights.

This compromise was backed by tons and tons of South Carolina businessmen who were afraid of the boycott.

BUT.....immediately after the compromise was enacted the NAACP stabbed their businessmen backers in the back. It was more important to them to keep the divisive issue than it was to maintain the compromise. This backstabbing alienated nearly every businessman in the State of South Carolina who had helped them with the compromise. They are unlikely to make that mistake again.

Having been stabbed in the back, the State of South Carolina has pretty well shrugged off the NAACP and currently nobody seems much interested in assisting them remove the flag from the Confederate Memorial.

So the Boycott continues but it is pretty much ineffective. Its only use is to make Democratic Presidential candidates sweat and hurt black South Carolinian businessmen who used to make a lot of money from the Black Homecoming/Reunion that occurred there.

NAACP will still exhort its members to vote the straight Democrat ticket in any upcoming election. The most "yellow dog" Democrats of all.

I wonder why Mississippi doesn't have the same problem, considering the confederate flag is embedded in their state flag.

To clarify, the NAACP has issued several statements before the debate in regards to the debate and campaigning, but only in regards to the democratic canidates. (Since several canidates contacted the NAACP to give there opinion and get there "blessing"). The NAACP stated, that it understands the issue of the debate is necessary, and that it is important for african americans to have a debate with as many canidates as possible, and it would allow an exception and hold no grudge to the democrats, since they are important to them. I.E. since its the democrats kissing the ring, they'll make an exception, but if it was republicans, they would flip, also on another note, they made it clear that democratic canidates can and should also feel free to campaign in the state without any fear of reprisal.

Yes, also many black state legislators felt stabbed in the back because they went to bat for the NAACP, and after the NAACP did a 180 they felt foolish.

I know a lot of Southern Baptists, and also Assembly of God. None of them have gone to Disney in years. I don't know how much has to do with an official boycott, it's just than Disney has a bad name among Christians.

In my bulletin a few weeks ago there was a big article how Disney is not having Christian services there anymore because there it was "exclusive". I had known this from FR already, but it can't be doing Disney any good to have this published in Christian bulletins. And it wasn't a traditional fundamentalist church either.

The boycott rages on...... but they practiced a little symbolism by staying away from the hotels/resturants......

Several of the Democratic candidates are staying with friends and supporters rather than giving South Carolina hotels business to honor a boycott by the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People.

The NAACP is continuing a boycott of the state because of the Confederate flag that flies on Statehouse grounds. The boycott began when the flag flew on the Statehouse dome.

Kwiesi Mfume and the NAACP are ineffective because of the corrupt leadership and the organization's own despicable practices. Anything RATS do is acceptable and anything PUBS is wrong regardless of one-sided point of view. This was clearly shown when in 2001 Senator Bobby Byrd called blacks "niggers" on nationwide tv but NAACP refuses to call for his resignation as a RAT leader and as a senator. Yet, the NAACP PERCEIVED and ASSUMED, not based on reality, an insult on Trent Lott's words at a retirement party for Strom Thurmond a few months ago. Regardless, the hue and cry required Lott to step down from his leadership role. This is so one-sided, and I'm not a Lott a fan. But I do have to point out the unequal, biased, corrupt organization's role in the affair. I'm NOT sympathetic to this racist organization.

The NAACP has said that he boycott does not apply to democrats. The NAACP has granted democrats a "waiver" during the election season.
