I don't think I ever saw Dr. Kildare, but his part in The Thornbirds really got me. There is something so 'something' about unrequited love, especially when there is an electricity between the two. When Meggie and the priest FINALLY get together and then must separate, and be totally apart and untouchable --- well ---they made it very believable. And that is what acting is all about. What Chamberlain does in his own life is fine with me. He never pushed himself in anyones faces. I'm pleased that he has spoken out, and I'm sorry he had to go thru all that 'guilt' for so many years. I wish him well.

Part V in the miniseries 'Thornbirds' when Meggie and Father Ralph DeBriqesaw (?) finally got together was one of my favorites tv moments. We just loved him. Oh, well. At least he didn't pull a degeneres in you face stunt!

Hello, Exit 148!

Yes, you are right, the love story in the Thorn Birds was incredible. Richard Chamberlain truly made the part come alive, and Rachel Ward as Meggie was excellent. They had such a connection. The double-whammy of forbidden love and unrequited love....what a combination. And, every woman I knew at the time that it was shown on TV fell in love with Richard Chamberlain.

I was really quite young during the Kildare series, but I do remember all the commotion over this hearthrob, Dr. Kildare (and Ben Casey, too). I think I remember the theme song began with something like, "Two stars will shine tonight..." I could be wrong.

Chamberlain's pictures were in every fan magazine at that time, too. He was always professional and kept his private life private. I am looking forward to reading his book.

I, too, am sorry that he had to go through all of the angst that he apparantly did. But, I am somewhat disheartened at the actual reality of his "persuasion"....he is such a dreamboat in so may ways that are appealing to women.
