IF we leave they collapse, especially if we convince Japan to leave as well. We and Japan contribute half of their budget.

I know. We shouldn't pay 1/2 the budget. We should pay either 1/200th (an equal amount for all nations) or 300Million/6Billionths (an amount equal to the # of residents in the country vs the # of residents in the world).
They won't collapse, they will either find new funding or cut back on their programs. But they will remain, at least at first, and without us they can cause some problems. Better to just cut back our expenditures on it, and to veto everything and force it to be useless or force it to comply with our will.
