Bush condemns Israeli gunship attack

President Bush has criticised an Israeli assassination attempt on a senior member of the Palestinian militant group Hamas.

Bush said he was concerned the attack would undermine the latest peace talks between the Israeli and Palestinian leaders which took place last week.

Israeli troops injured Abdel Aziz al Rantissi and killed two others when they fired on Rantissi's car from a helicopter gunship.

The Palestinian prime minister, Mahmoud Abbas, condemned the attack, while Hamas has threatened revenge.

I agree with you. But I'm not sure it is that well thought out. I hope it is.

I was pretty miffed with W before the Iraq war. Thought he talked too long. He ended up doing the deed and I'm ok with it. Still think if he hadn't talked so long, Saddam wouldn't have been able to spirit the WMDs out of the country. But I have basic trust in him to do the right thing. Even if it is hard to be as patient as he is. Still, I want a patient man in the drivers seat and he is, even though the world doesn't think so.

President Bush's condemning Israel's targeting of terrorist leaders is the ultimate double standard. One has to stretch one's faculties to divine why its kosher for America to wipe out the leaders of the 9-11 attacks on America but its verboten for Israel to go after the sponsors of attacks on Israeli civilians and military personnel? Bush overlooks the fact Hamas has rejected a ceasefire AND the roadmap. Mr. President, just like America in the post 9-11 era, our closest friend and ally has the same right to protect itself from terror and strengthen peace. From murderers who oppose peace altogether. Your Administration's double standard on terrorism in the Middle will retard and not advance the road map.

USS Liberty happened in the midst of the 6 day war.

The Struma was a dilapidated old ship carrying refugees from the death camps. After being denied entry to Palestine they were torpedoed while visible from shore and sunk. Almost 800 Jewish men, women and children were killed. Two survivors after hospitalization and imprisonment were eventually allowed into Western Palestine through an "act of clemency" over the objections of the British High Commissioner MacMichael.

While the British were killing Jews to prevent them from immigrating to Palestine they were allowing the Mufti, who had just returned from his visit with Hitler to bring in all the Arabs they could.

elbow their neighbors?

Listen, d!ckwad, you have a total of 4-5 posts on this forum. The only one NOT in this thread, Jew-hater, is the post about Maureen Dowd, wherein you talk about Blair's "Crimes." If you mean the socialism and EU nonsense, I'd agree with you. But somehow, I'm thinking you mean something else.

You one of the Slavic Club members?

Sean Hannity talked about this on his show. I agree with him and you in your post....Israel has as much right to protect itself as the US does.

I think President Bush etc. is wrong on this issue.

Get over it. Bush did and said the right thing.

Wrong, wrong, wrong! Israel has a right to defend itself. The terrorists attacks will not stop until the Palestinian Authority and the rest of the *SOB*'s are crushed, decimated and beaten into absolute, unconditional surrender. The Palestinians are but a pawn in the game of the region. Syria, Iran, Libya, and the rest of the "hateful" bunch need the Palestinians to get as close to Israel as possible, so they can once again attempt to commite genocide.

Bush is wrong. Period. And I'll hold him to this one.

If I were attacked by a terrorist, I would retaliate against the terrorist at any level. Sorry Bush, but this is the war on terrorists and it is the intent of the Israelis and most of the rest of us to kill them, everyone of them. Get with the program. After all, you declared this war, although most of us already wanted it. Kill all terrorists and their leadership. Kill them.

One is that there are violent people trying to destroy societies, ours, many others in the world. The world recognizes that and we are going to stop those people.

On the other hand, there are issues and violence and political issues that need to be resolved in the Middle East, Israelis and Palestinians. But we all recognize that the path to solve those is through negotiation and that we have devoted enormous efforts to getting back to that path of negotiation.

What a bunch of crap. Hamas, Islamic Jihad, PLO, Fatah, and all the rest of these terrorist groups want to destroy societies, specifically Israel. He says there are political issues? So did Osama Bin Laden have that (of course he really wants to destroy the US and Israel, but it still makes my point). He said he wants US bases out of Saudi Arabia, US to end support for Israel, etc. AREN'T THOSE POLITICAL ISSUES WORTH NEGOTIATION? The State Dept. are a bunch of hypocritical fools. A terrorist is a terrorist and the same type of response is needed - his elmination.

If Bush and Sharon have something up their sleeves that we just dont know about yet..some strategy..,well he better get to revealing it.

I find that hard to believe, especially because the US is telling Israel to release money to the terrorist PLO-PA. Furthermore, the CIA is currently training terrorists in the "Preventative" Security Service of the PLO to fight....terrorism. Pistols and other weapons are being given to them. Same Oslo mistake.

That - the helicopter attacks -is the more provocative way to go about solving that problem.

Is the US targeting Al Queda members riding in a car in Yemen provocative and doesn't really solve the problem, in your opinion?

This double standard will come back to haunt them when they, in the future, deal with a terrorist group that wants a state some place in the world.
