WASHINGTON - Like 200 bad pennies, it keeps turning up. The $2 bill, shunned by the American public for decades, could be making a comeback. After seven years, the government is thinking of printing the forgotten greenback once again.

"We do contemplate ordering more $2 notes," said Federal Reserve (news - web sites) spokesman David Skidmore. The Fed has been talking to the makers U.S. paper money, the Bureau of Engraving and Printing, about the matter.

The Federal Reserve, the supplier of cash to the nation's banks, had a huge pile of the $2 bills stashed away in its vaults back in 1996, when the last batch of the notes were printed.

I would read it, but don't feel like clicking the link. There is no need to excerpt from yahoo.

Personally, I like 2 dollar bills.

There was a thread yesterday on this news, and there were some good ideas in there. Delete the penny, but replace it with a twopenny. Kill the paper dollar and push the two dollar bill. Finally, mint up about a billion more dollar coins so people stop hoarding them and start using them.

I don't like any of those ideas.

2 dollar bills are great, so are dollar coins. We used to have a 2 cent piece, bring that back too. I also think we should use real silver, copper, and gold in our coins, and back up our paper money with gold and silver. If we run out of gold, then stop the printing presses on paper money.

We've had two $1 coins and both have been failures. They are too heavy to keep in your pocket.

Yeah I remember the Susan B Anthony. It was about the size of a quarte... I think it wasn't completely rounded (if I remember right). People were confusing it with the quarter. Major mistake. What happened to the second recent try at a dollar coin?

If there are no paper ones but lots of paper twos, you'll be okay.

IF they do, I hope the keep the 1976 artwork on it, and don't turn it into another piece of monopoly money! The back of a 2 dollar bill is a work of art.

2nd try was the saquajawea or whatever, gold, looked like a Chuck E Cheese Token... same size as a quarter but gold.

They need to not worry about reverse compatibility with the Susan B, dollar coin should be larger than a quarter, period.

Both TJ and Andrew Jackson would puke if they knew they were on Federal Reserve Notes. I suspect Jackson would blow someone's head off.

When the Susie first came out, my wife had somehow gotten a couple as change, and tried to use them to pay for stamps at the post office. The clerk would not accept them, "because she didn't have any place in her cash drawer for them." So much for the legal tender laws. . .

Good

If your in the mood for some quick cash, go get some 2 dollar bills from the bank and then sell the "Rare" 2 dollar bills on Ebay.

You'd be surprised.
