US Secretary of State Colin Powell encouraged Iranians on Tuesday to demonstrate for their rights and dismissed Tehran's criticism that Washington was interfering it is internal affairs.

'Our policy is to encourage people to demonstrate their views,' Powell said when asked about Iranian charges that the United States was formenting the protests.

He was speaking to reporters on a flight to the Cambodian capital Phnom Penh.

'We are not out there formenting them but if people wish to demonstrate peacefully and demostrate for right to a better life that seems to us to be a proper thing to do, Powell said.

Iran has blamed the United States for stirring up the unrest and on Monday said it had sent an official letter of protest to Washington for what it called 'blatant interference' in its internal affairs.

Powell dismissed the charges. 'Iran, as usual, is just trying to deflect its problems onto others, he said.'

The United States has applauded the protests as a fight for freedom by the Iranian people.

Iran is now under worldwide pressure for it to permit stricter UN checks of its nuclear program. The Iranian unrest was first sparked by small student protest, but gained momentum when thousands of ordinary people flocked to the campus after calls by US based Iranian exlie satellite channels.

When Colin Powell says "F*** it, I'm gonna get with Rummy play bad cop/worse cop with the mullahs," it's time short the mullahs' life insurance carrier.

Actually, I prefer the line (with reference to the mullahs), "F*** `em if they can't take a joke."

:)

And the mullah saying, "What the f*** do you think you're doing? Shut that sumb***h down, right now. I ain't ready to die, not for you."

Powell: "Everybody dies. I'm as good a reason as any."

Someone ought to do a remake of a poster for the movie "Bad Boys" featuring Powell and Rumsfeld.

:)
