This is one of the best single articles I've seen on this case. A worthwhile read, imho.

Nothing in here about how she is black and he was white--and how she laughed to a friend about "hitting some white guy" and leaving him to die. Can you imagine the coverage this would get if the races were reversed? It would be Jasper, TX II.

This trial has been long-awaited. I do not see how she can escape conviction.

Was it murder?

What a moronic question.....

The foremost villain of this story is the invention and popularization of the automobile.

If people walked or rode bicycles our streets would be safer.

Though no means of transport are immune from accidents, serious injury to pedestrians would be rare except for the motor car.

Even on horseback--should the rider be drunk, the horse at least would be sober.

A question (not that it matters to our legal system): Was the pedestrian sober at the time of the accident?

Can't you people see there are two victims in this tragedy?
There is nothing that can be done for Mr. Biggs, but there is no need to destroy another life. Chante has suffered enough. She has been in jail for over a year and will have to live the rest of her life with the memory of Gregory Glenn Biggs' horrible death. </sarcasm>
I spoke with a woman who shared a cell for a short time with Ms. Mallard and she said Chante is a sociopath who feels she has not done anything wrong.

"On the long curve from East Loop 820 to U.S. 287, a man crashed through her windshield, coming to rest partially inside the passenger side of the car."
. . . . < snip > . . . .

"She later went into the house, lay on the kitchen floor and cried more. She returned repeatedly to tell the man, who was moaning in pain, that she was sorry."

She was crying that something, (a Coke bottle, perhaps) fell out of the sky and crashed through her windshield and bled all over the car. Yup, she was sorry alright. Sorry she wouldn't be able to drive her car until the windshield was replaced. The 'gods' surely must be crazy, ruining her car in such an unjust manner. :<

< /sarcasm >

From what we know about this case, this guy should not have died. Taken to a trauma center and heroic actions administered, early on, he most probably would have lived.

She didn't murder him with her car-she murdered him with her self serving, indifference to his slowly dying in her garage. She murdered him in the fashion that Ted Kennedy murdered Mary Jo Kopechnie.

"All the stuff they're saying about her is bogus," said Marcus Anderson, another former co-worker. "She's cool. They make her seem like she's some kind of psycho. That's not Chante. Chante's got a heart.

"They're making her out to be like a monster. She's not. Dude, you just hit somebody, you're going to freak out. The first thing that's going to pop in your head is, `You're going to go to jail.' "
Could the general population be any more dumbed down? Why no report on the racist nature of this murder? Can you imagine the furor if a WHITE "dude" hit and left to die a BLACK woman (with such "heart"?) Riots all across the country. Maybe that's the problem. Caucasains just don't have a riot gene...

It began as an accident, by the time it was finished.. I'd say it was murder.

Oh yeah, it's murder, no doubt about it. Much worse even than hit and run.
