LOS ANGELES - Hollywood celebrities led by actor-director Tim Robbins called on Gov. Gray Davis Monday not to slash funding for public arts programs, saying children would suffer most and the money would scarcely make a dent in closing the state's $38.2 billion budget deficit.

"He could have volunteered anywhere." Right. because the World Trade Centre was... everywhere?
I'm just a little peeved at people who will attack others without knowing a damned thing about them. Tim Robbins isn't an elitist. He gets his hands dirty and still feels the sweat of the working man, but people lump him as an elitist who eats lobster everyday. That is the product of a poorly-geared mind. I don't care if he was anti-war or not, because he was still anti-terror and pro-people, and he not only showed this with his money but with his hard work and sweat. There were no photo-ops, there were no ulterior motives, and he stood with his fellow man. Yet, to those who have taken it on themselves to hate this man, none of this matters. Seriously, give this man credit for doing above and beyond what the people of this nation asked.
Tim Robbins, my fellow man, I salute you.

Mr. Robbins served in the military... above and beyond, that must be what you meant. What higher honor does our nation offer its men? How about supporting our military, that has put their lives on the line for his right to free speech, and his right to earn a living making artistic garbage, in the guise of free speech? Most people of this nation, nicely ask for Mr. Robbins to take a breather, and let the adults be in charge for awhile.

Red Cross Centers all over the country were asking for blood donations and all the centers at the time were short of help.
Maybe Robbins didn't know how to look them up in a Hollywood phone book.
The guy gave a pint of blood. Someone alert the media. I, for one, am not impressed.

do you even read? or do you just keep believing the same stupid lies? he was in NYC to do more than give blood! or can you not get that through your skull? you think all those people needed was blood? that's what separates Mr. Robbins from you. You see blood, and give blood, but offer no support, no helping hand. He sees blood, gives blood, then rolls up his sleeves to help. I've stated that repeatedly, but you - with no proof, not even a photo-op - attack him, without knowing what that man did. Want some evidence of why that man may have been in NYC besides blood? Take a look at the picture of him with the FDNY again. Take a good long look - that man is a man who helps his fellow man. Then look in the mirror - that is a man who attacks that man late at night for doing so.

NY Daily News (9/20/01):
"When the attacks occurred, the director was in Los Angeles, preparing the play "Mephisto" for a theater group called the Actors Gang. The play was set aside, Robbins drove cross-country, and on Tuesday night he was spotted dishing out food at the Javits Center."
Variety:
Showbiz rolls up its sleeves
"TIM ROBBINS
actor-director
"I was in L.A. directing a play and I woke up and saw it on TV; it had already happened. I went and dry-heaved, then got on the phone and tried to find out where my kids were. I went into work because we had a rehearsal scheduled. I just told people to come to the theater if they wanted to be around people. They just came and watched TV. I was getting too frustrated watching TV so I cleaned this paint sink, just got turpentine and a wire brush and began cleaning it. That night I realized there were going to be no flights. So I rented a car and two of us left on Wednesday and got back to New York in 48 hours of driving. I think I slept about eight hours after we crossed the Mississippi. When something like this happens, to not be there for your kids, to be filled with such anxiety and fear it was horrible."

You never said you went out and volunteered yourself. If you did, mention it, and don't get angy when I don't notice you doing something you never mention. Also, if you did, you can appreciate Robbins going and doing more than giving blood. Right? If not, what is it that makes you unimpressed with him? Does his altruistic nature make you want to vomit or something? Do you hate people who help that much?

"You should make a connection between this cutting of arts programs and the fact that the people that are going to suffer most from it are going to be children," Robbins said.LOFL, where has this chucklehead Robbins been for the past five years? One of his limousine liberal buddies better take him aside and inform him that the old, "But what about the children?" mantra became an embarrassing laughline long ago. Only the most simpleminded of the Democrat politicians still throw that cheap old gimmick at the sucker moms. This guy Robbins probably still plays "The Macarena" and "Don't Stop Thinking About Tomorrow" at his house parties. What a buffoon!

So, before you say he doesn't dish out the cash, check yourself out and ask if you would have driven 56 hours to NYC just to donate blood.Hey everybody, look at me. See what I did?
Get a grip.
This guy supports the Democrat Party USA and that means he goes into the polling place on election day and votes for big government to confiscate more of my family's money. I don't care if he drives to the moon so he can stand on his head and fart the Star Spangled Banner. I don't like him and I don't like his commonlaw wife, either.

Rob Reiner is leading the charge against smoking in any films!
Reiner is also the nanny who campaigned in California a few years ago for a 50 cent tax hike on each pack of cigarettes. The monies from this tax, which is known as 'the Reiner Tax,' go directly to his foundation which supports child-rearing education.

So, before you say he doesn't dish out the cash, check yourself out and ask if you would have driven 56 hours to NYC just to donate bloodRobbins is just setting up a plot for future 'artistes' to envision when they're writing their liberal versions of 9/11. He wants to be in the middle of any future TV movie that comes down the pike [or is that pipe? I don't know. ]
Now film the actor playing Robbins as frantically driving down the lonely highway, desperately trying to reach NYC. Cows and crops pass by as the sad musical track plays in the background. He barely stops for food and drink, perhaps in a backwoods Burger King, but his quest is to reach the suffering masses who need his comfort.
He can sit on it and twirl.

Oh, please, please let us continue to waste money on needless, feel good stuff.

It sounds as though you are on an inside track of knowledge. Is that so? A later posting (#47) says that being with his children was a major impetus for the cross country trip. Therefore, it sounds as though you are off target when you claim that he specifically went out to help.
Few people are totally evil. So, I am not surprised that Tim Robbins has done some good things. I don't like his stance on the war, the president and the First Amendment--notwithstanding any good deeds he might perform.
I can tell you that you do not have the inside track on me or lots of common people. You do not know what I did in response to Sept, 11th: it is not your business. The sacrifices of the common people cut to the bone much more quickly than the gestures of the rich and famous. Think of the widow's mite, if my point is unclear.
The fact remains that the liberals don't want taxpayers to get a tax cut and that this group is refusing to take their hands off the money pie. If you don't want a tax cut, then send your money back to the US Treasury. If Tim Robbins and others want arts in the schools, then they should start fund raising. Considering how much money flows through Hollywood, the 16 million shouldn't deprive them of too many clothes, cars, homes, drugs, plastic surgeries, etc.
