Applebees(Texas) changing Anti-gun/CCW policy?

I don't know TX law.

In Michigan, businesses(outside those covered by the law like bars(different than restaurant) must post anti-CPL signs if they do not want the business of CPL holders.

Therfore if Applebees wants to ban CPL's in MI, they must have a sign.

As I understand Texas law, there are specific requirements on the signs needed to prohibit concealed carry on a company's premises.

No sign = concealed carry alowed.

Texans with CHL licenses may carry "almost" anywhere unless the business posts a PC:30.06. The "30.06" is an extremely specifically created and worded sign which would disallow CHL carry on their premises.

An Applebee franchisee, Applejam Texas, initially put up 30.06's and prevented legal concealed carry on their many premises. I am pleased to say that I was one of many who contacted the franchisee and Applebee's national management to announce that we would no longer do business with their chain. Applejam Texas quickly apoligized for their hasty decision and reversed their policy. They do not now post 30.06's and CHL is accepted on their premises.

We won this one but the war isn't over. Keep up the fight.

It should be noted that since the signs are already up, a statement that they will not post the signs is rather meaningless.

I think it should also be noted that based on the name of the establishment, I would think it is a cocktail lounge/restaurant and the banning of handguns in a place that serves alcohol is not all that absurd.

It's a Bennigan's/Chili's clone - more restaurant than bar, but with a small cocktail area.

I'll bet that they no longer have to worry about serious crime in their restaurant. Imagine a robbery attempt where there are 5 or 10 patrons carrying weapons. Good move.

I have just emailed this article to our local Applebees franchise owner asking what their CCW policy is in Kentucky restaurants. I said I am a certified CCW instructor in Kentucky and will notify all students of the response received. I will report the Applebees response on this thread.

It's the same in Florida. I eat at Applebees on a regular basis and have never seen such a sign on any of their Florida locations.

Denny's and Blockbuster video had such a policy for short while, but NRA members and the local gun clubs banded together to form boycotts and all that came to an end several years ago. Smooth sailing since.

And it's a God-awful huge, ugly, thing, long on legalese wording in Spanish and English. Your average sheeple not familiar with Texas laws take one look at this sign and wonder, "What the hell is that all about?"

Even if I were an anti-gunner, I wouldn't want one of those horrible, distratcting, ugly signs on the front door of my business!

Why do you assume that everyone who goes to a place that serves alcohol will drink? If you assume that, then no one should be allowed to drive away from the place.

There's no ambiguity there: if a correctly-worded sign is not posted, then a place is not off-limits for concealed carry.
In Texas.
The sign is called the "30.06" notice for the Texas law requiring it.

There's a distinct difference between drinking, and drinking to excess.

Any establishment that serves 51% or more alcohol vs. food, CHL holders are automatically prohibited from bringing in their weapons. Applebee's must serve more food than drink.
