I am white, christian, female, and 59 years old. I always tip at least 20% even if the service is only so-so...more if it is excellent. All five of the women I meet for dinner once a month are in the same categories. We all tip very much the same. You can find tightwads in every category.

People whose kids have waited tables tend to be generous regardless of service. Yes, mine did.

I was at a business lunch a few years back and I was paying for clients. The bill came and I did my normal thing- 20% and I rounded up a bit- maybe overtipping a buck. This one client- who was old (60's)- sitting next to me and who was watching as I was filling out the credit card receipt got almost upset that I was giving the waiter an extra buck and said I should figure the tip to the exact CENT! That blew my mind.

That was my experience. I served old people with a retirement home next door. I counted my tips in spare change.

Hey, WATCH IT, bubbe. *I'M* an "old people" and I tip generously. I know how hard those people work.

However, my daughter once told me that when she worked at a posh restaurant while in college, she hated waiting on elderly people. The problem was that they often kept changing their order, then forgot what they ordered, and then complained that they got the wrong food. LOL!

A young friend who worked her way through college told it to me this way: The worst tippers are blacks, followed closely by obvious liberals, then two middle aged women eating together, then old people. The best tippers are young men trying to impress a date followed by white middle aged couples.

My wife and I took a couple of our friends out to dinner the other night ... I paid; the check was $75.00 and I left a $15.00 tip.
