Our guys in WWII were there for 3-4 years, in hell holes like Burma, Okinawa, Wake, Corregidor, Midway. They were saving the world, and everybody knew it.
It does not excuse these soldiers comments, but the war in Iraq is not the same.
VN, though, is an appropriate comparison. No shortage of contempt for the CoC in that war either, though, if you went looking for it.
