Blair: China is Living up to 'One Country, Two Systems'

British Prime Minister Tony Blair said Tuesday that it's evident that China has been living up to the "one country, two systems" concept since Hong Kong was handed back to its motherland six years ago.

Blair made the remarks on his flight to Hong Kong, the final leg of his Asian tour, according to local news report.

Blair has just finished his three-day visit to the Chinese mainland, during which he met with Chinese leaders in Beijing.

In his meeting with Chinese President Hu Jintao on Monday, Blair said he was delighted to see the strong development momentum of Sino-British bilateral ties in recent years, underlining that the smooth handover of Hong Kong six years ago had opened a new chapter for bilateral relations.

Blair will stay in Hong Kong for three days. It is his second official visit to Hong Kong since he became Britain's youngest prime minister in 1997.

The British Prime Minister will hold talks with Hong Kong Chief Executive Tung Chee Hwa and take part in a series of activities during his visit here.

"Blair: China is Living up to 'One Country, Two Systems'"

Well, Tony Blair may stand shoulder to shoulder with the United States but he sure doesn't have much of a backbone when it comes to standing up to the CCP.

What Tony meant to say was: "Welcome to $hit Creek, Sorry, we are out of paddles"

Thanks, EOTS.

I think he is misinformed, in his speech he said that the Article 23 is scrapped and he praised the Tung's government for his flexibility. I nearly fell out of my chair when I heard it. In fact, the bill is only deferred. A statesman like Blair should varify the facts before he make such comment.

There's one thing about the Brits -- they fought with the Germans agains the French, the French against the Germans, the Russians against the Germans, the Germans against the Russians and they were the only folks to have burnt down the White House and sacked Washington DC.

you can't trust 'em. Right now they're our best buddy but after those 20 or 30 years when China becomes the largest economy in the world, I'm betting they'll be the first to turn their backs on us.
