What newspaper is NOT liberal? I am not sure about the Ft. Worth Star-Telegram, but the Dallas Morning News, the Houston Chronicle, the Austin Statesman (?), and my local paper are all very liberal. The Dallas Times Herald and Houston Post went out of business years ago.

Hey, that's an interesting concept ! I wonder if it's been suggested or considered by Dewhurst/Perry ??

Why can't the rules of each chamber be adjusted -- just declare the members absent willfully and proceed anyway? Becuase it's not just a legislative rule, it's a provision of the Texas Constitution.

So abandon it NOW, you wimps!!! They will. There are two different things going on here. The 2/3 rule referred to above is required to move a bill to to the floor for a vote outside of the order that the bills were submitted. Normally, in a regular session, there is a "blocker bill" introduced before any others, thus requiring a 2/3 vote to bring any of the others to the floor. Since in this second special session there will be no other business (the Governor gets to set the topics allowed for a special session), a blocker bill will not be in order and so the 2/3 rule won't apply. That's what the Dems are whining about.
The second factor is the need for a quorum to conduct any Senate business, will the flown 11, there is no quorum and the proivsion requiring one is not a mere legislative rule, or even a law, but rather a state constitutional provisiion. And other than sending a posse to NM, which wouldn't be a bad idea, but is out of Texas jurisdiction, absent "hot pursuit".

Did you see her interviewed on The Big Story by Bob Sellers? He made her look ridiculous! She said she was serving her constituents - minority - blacks and hispanics. Does that mean she has NO anglos in her district. Bob asked her if the minority constituents she meant were democrats.

I was out of town for a few days, and could barely get any coverage of this story at all. Let me guess, the Houston Chronicle has already run an editorial in support of this action...

This thread has more info than another one I was checking out. Have not read all of this thread so this may be a repeat. I have the list of absent senators from the legislative journel:
http://www.capitol.state.tx.us/sjrnl/781/html/sj07-28-f.htm There were 13 absent. I'm going back and get names and cities they represent.
PS: I couldn't find this info just flipping through the Houston Chronicle. Dallas paper wanted me to register -blah on that.
