These differences are why I think it is easy to say but not easily done when you tell a person who is a world class programmer that they need to develop more business skills.

There's a lot of truth to what you say. I know an engineer that actually talks like a computer, I'm not kidding either.

Nobody is going to get this guy to "think outside the box". He's not programmed for it.

The party who campaigns against outsourcing WILL win the next election. Bush better get it and get it soon.

I know an engineer that actually talks like a computer, I'm not kidding either.

As Spock would say, "Fascinating". I worked with a guy who would always put his ear to the hard drive while his programs were running. I wondered what he was doing and he told me that was the best way to determine if his physical writes were successful. He could tell by listening to the drive heads. That guy would have been a sight to see in a board room meeting...

These doom and gloom posts are so funny. There is a very good chance that we will experience a GDP of 6.5% or greater, millions of jobs will be created as people and companies open their pursestrings, and all you can say is but, but...

Kind of like the guy who wins a million dollars, but complains that the guy that gave him the check had shifty eyes. The refusal to see the possibility of something good is an curious phenomena that is ingrained in these posts. The world is changing, things are getting better, American's a strong and resourceful people, the nation will survive and still be the envy of the world. Thank you very much.

This is an economic war, and India and China are going to suck us dry and drain all our manufacturing and knowlege based technologies ut of the country using slave labor wages to do it, and all some of you here can do is cheerlead it!!

I agree in part; Indian and China are not doing it to us, we are doing it to ourselves, they are just happy to pick up the work.

You are one of the Morons that hasnt gotten laid off yet I see.

22 weeks and counting.

and I have more education and experience in manufacturing and engineering and mechanics than you, I am quite sure

and they are not hiring, in fact, the news here in CT is how even more companies just picked up and moved to China

Work is so bad here, they even laid off one of the unemployment centers, that's how bad our state is

and since it has been so bad for so long, none of s have the money to move, so dont start on your moronic advice.

you free traitors have no clue. You are deaf, dumb and Blind.

"But, in general, the protective system of our day is conservative, while the free trade system is

destructive. It breaks up old nationalities and pushes the antagonism of the proletariat and the

bourgeoisie to the extreme point. In a word, the free trade system hastens the social revolution. It

is in this revolutionary sense alone, gentlemen, that I vote in favor of free trade." ~ Karl Marx, On

the Question of Free Trade, January 9, 1848
http://www.marxists.org/archive/marx/works/1848/01/09ft.htm#marx

"Communists and socialists feel sure that setting up international “free” trade systems which

impose regulations chuck full of intrigues, redistribution plans, arbitrary law, and interdependence

schemes, will win out against the conservative interests of every free nation. What could be better

than to use “free” trade to reverse the advantage of the relatively free, moral, prosperous, and

strong nations of the Earth, so that the tyrannical, amoral, poor, and weak nations of the socialist

bloc might get the upper hand? What could be a more cunning approach than to market the idea

that those who oppose “free” trade are enemies of freedom?"

Haa, haa, such a talanted indiviual that has nothing better to do then blame someone else for his problems. My recommendation is for you to get off you ass and start a business if you have so many skills. I am sure that you can give me a thousand reasons why you can't, all this without realizing the actual reasons are your problem, since they are based on I can't.

You lost your job due to the recession, when the ecomony improves so will your job prospects. Next, if there are no jobs in CT, move (CT closed the unemployment center becuase the state overspent during the boom times). There are places in the country that can use a man of your talents if you would make the effort. For example: Florida created 92,800 jobs from April 2002 to April 2003, a growth rate of 1.3 percent and the state's 13th straight month of positive job growth.

Supposedly we are well into the recovery yet unemployemnt has continued to rise. No do not try to sello the lagging indicator garbage here it will not wash becayuse employment does not lag that much. There are several issues that need to be addressed by GWB. First, he needs to addre4ss governemnt subsidies for offshore investment. Second he needs to address currency manipulations by other nations which contribute to the drqain of jobs and investment. Third he needs to address the tariff and non-traiff barriers american goods and services face in other nations.

There are a number of other issues he and his economic team do need to address including lower business regulatrion here in teh USA, domestic content in defense department orders. technology transfers and intellectual property infringements but the first thing is to deal with structural problems in the US economy. The rosy predictions you are coming up with are not addressing the problems. We have had rosy predictions since GWB inherited the Clinton recession.

Your predictions about increased corporate IT investment mightseem a whole lot better if a major portion of that investmnent were to be in teh USA but that is not longer in the business models. further, what there is for IT investment in the USA will be eaten up by the Guest workers here under non-immigrant status visas.

I do not subscribe to the theory that the only thing necesary to have a booming economy is to convince peopel that everything is wonderful or soon will be. Policies have results intended or not. Clinton's economic policies brought us the current economic problems Bush if he is willing to institute policy changes can get us out.

OK you win, I will ignore history. With a GDP of 6.5% there will be millions upon millions of ways to make a buck. Find one and be happy.

With aan anuualized GDP growth of 6.5% I will agree that will be a boom economy but we have yet to see it. What we have is a recovery with rising unemployment. That should set off a whole lot of warning bells. I do not ask anyone to ignore history I ask people to actually look at it in detail.

This is uncalled for personal abuse. I would suggest you learn some economics and pay attention to what is happening in this nation so you can make comments at issue and not just engage in personal attacks. I note your screen name and tagline seem to indicate you might be a Republican. Your attacks on conservatives do nothing to advance the Republican cause.

You lost your job due to the recession, when the ecomony improves so will your job prospects.

He lost his job de to the recession which started because of Clinton's economic policies. Any continuation of those policies must be at least suspect.

Next, if there are no jobs in CT, move (CT closed the unemployment center becuase the state overspent during the boom times). I am really very happy to hear about Florida's job growth and I also realize there are structural problems in many states economies due to over taxation and over spending. However, GWB needs to address the structural problems. Should that 6.5% growth in teh GDP not start being realized soon then the economy will doom GWB and I for one do not want that to happen.

Or, equivalently, he could "eat cake".

"Starting a business" and making green money are two altogether different things.

Business executives say they can't compete, let alone keep their companies alive, if they hire U.S. IT workers for $40,000 to $80,000 a year while their competitors hire the same talent in India for $8,500 to $9,800.

That is why the tariffs must be restored. Companies which hire Americans should not be penalized or driven out of business.

Outsourcing is the political issue of this decade - politicians just haven't realized it.

Personally I think it is held to be true in DC that Nerds don't vote!

"It's not the traditional economic model anymore," he said. "Businesses may be spending, but they're not spending their dollars here - it's not going to result in new jobs and increased economic activity."

Guys, This is the problem with the "new" investor's global economy. The destruction of the U.S. of A. and freedom. The second Bush seems to be using his father's policies in this. "Ignore it, and it'll go away." Or, "Just keep them busy and occupied on other things." I don't think{?} it'll work this time around either. I hope he changes his ways before the administration changes hands again. Peace and love, George.

Here is the reply that I gave on another thread. I cut and pasted it because I think it is also applicable here.

I don't know about that. A lot of these jobs are being outsourced in Gore states, CA, NJ, NY, IL, WA, etc. so a lot of these people probably voted for Gore anyway, for such touchy feely issues as enivro wackoism.

Also the estimates I see is that 500,000 will be outsourced so that means %0.5 of the total 2000 electorate effected and we don't how many have moved on and started their own business or went into other postions.

So IMO, balanket statements aren't applicable on debates such as these, since there are so many variables.

Also in addition I would like to add this anecdotal evidence which you mat find not applicable, but I do.

Recently a chain of supermarkets in my area have added self-checkout lines. I like them. They way the work is that there are 4 computerized checkout stations and an island for a casheir attendant to punch into the computer such things as produce and alcohol. I zip right and in out. The supermarket has effectively "outsourced" three casheirs to the machines. Do you think this is wrong and should be abolished?

"have a presence overseas to take advantage?"

It is not just a presence. It is entire products and companies moving offshore to take advantage of close to slave like labor. All of the investment is going to third turd countries and there is not any trickle down to our economy. This is a big issue not only in software, but in all aspects of manufacturing. There is one good thing about this....at least we will be able understand the clerk at 7-11 becuase he will be us.
