Sharon is ready to pound Palestinians the way Bush whipped Saddam
Jewish World Review ^ | 05 August 2003 | Zev Chafets

The Pentagon has dropped its scheme to create a stock market for investors who want to trade in international disasters. Too bad. I was planning to make a bundle on Palestinian futures. Naturally, I intended to sell short. You can't go wrong betting on the Palestinian genius for self-inflicted disaster.

Last week, on a visit to Jerusalem, House Majority Leader Tom DeLay, R-Texas, described the ceasefire between Israel and the Palestinians as "paper-thin." That overestimates the durability of paper. All signs point to an outbreak of fighting by the end of the summer.

Excerpted from Jewish World Review. Some I have discussed this with on FR have assured me Bush is just "giving the Palistinians enough rope to hang themselves." Knowing Bush and his foreign policy concerning the war on terrorism, I have to believe that. His fascillating on Israel is just too far out of character, not to believe the Bush foreign policy wonks don't have something up their sleeves.

I sure hope he's right. The whole Palestinian bogeyman needs to be buried and its terror leaders slain, once and for all.

Add me to the pinglist please.

I hope this is right. It well may be: any other development has too much of a potential for losing 2004, and this is not something Bush can play with.

I guess by the time Bush is back from his vacations, things may start happening.

Do you think Sharon will actually do what needs to be done, or is this wild-eyed optimism from Mr. Chafets?

I'll go along with that, especially since it's what I figured was happening from the first. While everyone here was screaming about the road map, I was telling everyone that it's not the road map that matters, it's who's driving. :o)

"The whole Palestinian bogeyman needs to be buried...."

Bogeyman indeed. This whole scenario has been festering since Arafat founded the PLO. That's about, what? Thirty years too long? Plus looking back on the monumental waste of time and resources in trying to "resolve" this to the liking of an adversarial culture that had no intentions of ever living in peace with Israel in the first place.

GOOD!

It's about time human civilization woke up and got as serious about its survival as the seventh-century savages are about our annihilation!

Zev Chafets has always been a wild-eyed freak. He is a former wild-eyed leftist who thinks that because he has moved an inch away from the virulent left than the other leftists this somehow makes him a "conservative."

"Bush has stated over and over again his committment to peace, and to a Palestinian state...."

Oh, I have no doubts about his integrity in his public statements. Regardless of the left's attempts to demonize him and cast doubts as to his credibility, I'm assured he means what he says and has every intention of following through with a diplomatic course. Like many have said, he has staked the prestige of his Presidency on this deal.

The big problem for him is when those Khassam rockets start raining down on Israeli villages and towns, or after the "cease fire," the suicide bombings and Israeli civilian casualty counts start going up again.

Then dudes like me who support not only him, his Administration, and his place in history, but Israel also, start raising hell lest he be saddled with the ignomious memory of having a hand in what columnist George Will has called, 'Final Solution,' Phase 2.

Any Bush supporter would be opposed to that.

"The Palestinians lost the last intifadeh, which is why they asked for a ceasefire. And they will lose the next. The difference is, this time it will be Israel's intifadeh. And America won't be there to stop it. In fact, the United States will be rooting Israel on."

This is very encouraging. I sure hope Israel will fully defend themselves.

Great post!
