Mr. Bridis may be guilty of the logical fallacy of the "false dichotomy," otherwise known as the "fallacy of the excluded middle." He is assuming that two possibilities are mutually exclusive, ie that they cannot both be true at the same time. In this case, he seems to be saying that
- because (apparently) one of the HIJACKERS crashed the plane
- therefore the passenger uprising must either have been a failure
However, as others have pointed out, BOTH possibilties could be true. Otherwise, we have had to believe that the hijackers INTENDED to crash the plane in an empty field.
