I think maybe he was letting his Mommy know last night jsut how much he has been hurting. They always save their deepest emotions for when Mommy is there, and it may have been the first time he was able to get those great big emotions out of his tiny, worked-on body. It may have been something else, but it could well have been that. What a little trouper.
