Liberals saved us from the fascist attitudes of Nixon

Conservatives and fascism.... Conservatives give as much information to society and government in the hope that the right decisions will be made and the right policies will be undertaken....Fascists....Everything at gunpoint...no discussion....

Be very careful here. Fascism is merely another facet of socialism, and has no more to do with conservatism than communism does. Also, you seem not to understand what conservatism is all about, if you think that we conservatives want to give information to "society" and government in the hopes of the best outcome. (I would like to know: how do you give anything to "society"? Who is taking stuff on behalf of "society"? Society is just an amorphous idea; as far as I can tell, it doesn't exist in the way that a, e.g., bank does.) Look at the racial privacy initiative that will be included on the California recall ballot: a conservative initiative designed to prevent certain types of information from being collected by government. Anyway, I suggest doing more reading to learn about conservatism; FR is an excellent resource for this.

It is my opinion that a lot of conservative issues that are raises which provide information to society are a reflection of Conservative Christian values and are in pursuit of the goal of a true meritocracy where people are judged and progress in this country based on their talents and hard work...A very admirable and worthwhile pursuit...

There is also an element of conservatism that spends a little too much time worrying about what people do in their bedrooms and in their private lives. I personally tend to go with the "As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord!" attitude.

There are some conservatives that believe that God gave us free will and we have to take responsibility for the choices we make when exercising our free will and there are other conservatives that believe we have been given free will and we choose to legislate against anything that does is against our Conservative Values. That is where people start to get nervous.

There are conservatives who believe in less taxation because they want to manage their own affairs and not contribute to government waste and pork and want a fair reward for their labor and effort. There are other conservatives who have not worked in generations living off their inheritance and having a lot of fun Saturday Nights but getting very conservative on Sunday morning.

There are conservatives who oppose racism and believe that all people should be treated equally under the law. There are other conservatives who believe that the racial issues we are dealing with in America are non-existent and that the problem is solved and nothing more needs to be done.
There are also conservatives and liberals who embrace an agenda because they don't want to see their lives change.

There are other conservatives who will hire illegal aliens to do the work they themselves would never do, eat the inexpensive fruit and food these illegals harvest, and then cheer when you see a full bus headed back to Tijuana.

There are conservatives who speak out against illegal immigration and there are conservatives who speak out against legal and illegal immigration...

As a moderate, I tend to go for the compassionate conservative agenda because I don't want to end up living behind a wall and having to drive an armored car to the store.

The thing about having liberals and conservatives and the adversarial relationship is that everyone has a shot at their dream. One can start out liberal and become more conservative and vice versa.

Most days, for me, the conservative agenda and mentality work. Some days, it does not...

However, per your suggestion, I will keep reading from the postings of those who engage and welcome opposing views and I will also read the postings of those who have no tolerance for opposing views and see how things turn out.

And to answer your question, conservatives provide information to society in the standard way (through the media, churches (love that witnessing concept), elected representatives and discussion). These interactions can lead to laws, community standards, unspoken rules, and traditions.

By the way, the racial privacy issue may help but it is not the real problem... The real problem are the stereotypes attributed to certain groups...the tendency to think the worst about someone simply because they look different or come from a different place... I admit there has been progress but I also remember that on the day I was born, Kennedy was president, the Civil Rights act had not yet been passed, the poll tax amendment had not been signed, kids 18-20 could die in military service but not vote, etc.,etc...
I just disagree with the opinion that we don't have a lot of work to do individually and as a society (That is on all sides of town)...

I do not know if keeping our racial make-up out of the hands of the government is going to solve anything... I hope it does... But I have had that experience far too many times where someone is talking to me on the phone and likes me and then I get "that look" when I walk in... Doesn't bother me that much because I have the skills and other choices but I am not going to go around acting like the problem does not exist...

Also, I notice that you are just as offended about conservatives being associated with something as negative as fascism (and I think the only similarities that are even remote are in social policy and law enforcement...economic ideals are nothing alike)...I wonder if liberals feel the same about communism...Do unto others....

Hoping that
