You should have seen him as the pothead of the week on ABC's This Week with George Staphylococcus. Franken was not only not funny, his comments were completely incoherent, accounting for why he was never invited back. In other words, he was neither good enough nor smart enough for the producers to like him back.

Well said!!! I, also, am not the final arbiter of humor, BUT, I believe I can say that Franken is not funny and recieve far more "amens" than "nay" votes.
As for the Stooges...they were funny in a twisted sort of way (while Franken is not funny at all, period)..The Stooges did have some ORIGINAL ideas....and like you with the Stooges, I can still watch a Laurel and Hardy that I have seen many dozens of times and crack up....it was ART in those days.

An Al Franken Joke: Why did Al fail highschool Gym?
Because his grandmother made him stay out of public showers.

He was never funny, just kinda crass.

I'll be one of the lone dissenters on this thread. I thought Franken and Davis were very funny and creative, WAY back when.
Ditto! Franken and Davis had their moments, especially the "coming out" skit. Remember the "Decade of Al Franken" bit? Little did we know! Like another poster said, once Franken started spewing his political opinions, he lost me. A shame...

I still laugh at the Stooges in routines I've seen dozens of times
Obviously, you are a gentleman of taste and wit! Nyuk nyuk nyuk...
BTW, anybody see the rebroadcast recently of Mel Gibson's fine Three Stooges made-for-TV biopic? Pretty darn good!

Al Franken is really not funny.

When Al Franken was part of the writing crew on the original SNL, he did some funny stuff - I loved his editorials on "Weekend Update" ("How does it matter to me. Al Franken."), but he hasn't been funny in more than a decade. His "LateLine" (1998-99 NBC series) had potential, but Franken thought he could get political, and it tanked. Quickly.
Hell. Even Carrot Top is more funny than Al Franken (although I think I'd be in a long line of folks who would love to beat Carrot Top severely with a blunt object for those damn telephone commercials).

I heard the drunken little tantrum he had at the Fox News table during the white house press dinner was amusing. O'Reilly should have decked him. Now that would be funny.

Hemmoroids have never been funny --and Al Franken has always been an insufferable leftist pain in the arse.

Should we freep that thing at his book signings? Or is it worth it? His first one is on a Monday, September 29, 2003 at Cambridge, Massachusetts.

His "LateLine" (1998-99 NBC series) had potential, but Franken thought he could get political, and it tanked. Quickly. There was one funny scene in that series-- Al's character was filming a segment about airbags and was behind the wheel in the demo car when the airbag detonated and knocked him senseless. The camera guys showed it repeating over and over. That was the funny part. Pow, pow, pow, pow...

I thought the best era of SNL was the 1990s! Mike Meyers, Dana Carvey, Spade, Schnieder, Oteri, Will Ferrell, Shannon, Farley, McDonald, Dennis Miller. Granted, Franken was included, but he was ALWAYS the clunker and was not a regular. He was featured from time to time. Not funny, ever. Always wondered what Lorne Greene saw in Big Creepy Al.
