GOP's King: Hillary's Attack on Bush Could Have Caused Riots
Newsmax.com ^ | 8-15-03 | Carl Limbacher

Posted on 08/15/2003 2:07:55 PM PDT by Paul Atreides

Congressman Peter King, R-NY, fired back at Sen. Hillary Clinton today, saying that her repeated attacks on President Bush as New York City slipped into darkness during last night's blackout could have provoked civil unrest.

Rep. King called Sen. Clinton's attempts to blame Bush for the blackout during several appearances on radio and TV "absolutely disgraceful."

He then noted, "There could have been some incident last night, and then you attach that to what she's saying and you get out of control and, before you know it, you have cops fighting for their lives in this city."

Within two hours of the power outage, Sen. Clinton was publicly criticizing Bush for the power failure, telling reporters, "I don't think the federal administration under this president is really focused on making sure we don't have these problems in the future."

King noted that her comments during the early evening hours came at a very precipitous moment for the city.

"We didn't know what was going to happen," he told Hannity. "And all you need is someone who's supposedly a national leader, trying to sow the seeds of division - and you have the police out there trying to keep order in the streets - and you have an elected official basically trying to divide the country, I mean, it's irresponsible to do that.

The Long Island Republican accused the former first lady of "undermining the efforts of what people like [Police Commissioner] Ray Kelly and [Mayor] Mike Bloomberg were trying to do, and Gov. Pataki - and that was to keep everyone speaking as one."

"Even if she had been right," King continued, "that is not the time to send a divisive message. . . . It was terrible."

All King did was to pull a NewsMax by blaming Hillary for something that didn't happen, and then weeping for the cops who could have been killed in the thing that didn't happen, in a ploy for cheap political points.

Sometimes the ridiculous must be countered with the ridiculous in order to expose it. It beats going on the defensive. Though, in the long term it would be great to expose the clintons for their non-existent engergy policies.

Or a sausage hoagie slathered with grease and mayonaise.

I wonder if she can eat a Philly Cheesteak without swiss cheese?

Hillary has always wanted huge race riots in this country. It is her dream.

Too bad...she has never been able to achieve it on the scale that she would like.

Actually this gives President Bush the PERFECT excuse to completely remove all EPA and BLM roadblock regulations against building 50 to 100 more nuclear reactors in various parts of the country.

After all, we wouldn't want to have a repeat of this power failure. If the US bought these at 2 billion dollars a pop (instead of using the $$ for foreign aid to the twerps poking fun at us), we could also employ upwards of 200,000 + people at one shot.

It's a big gov't project but one that I'd actually welcome.

Unfortunately, this is all too easy to spin. The liberals can take the offensive and say "Cheney knew! And you can bet that if Cheney knew...(wait for it)...BUSH KNEW!"

It's only a matter of time.

Someone should tell Hillary that the Washington Post ran an article today that said that the Senate Democrats (Hillary) were responsible for the delay in the passage of the energy bill and that their obstruction was likely to continue because the public had lost interest in energy issues (obviously the article was written before the blackouts). I bet that has all changed, today. So everyone grab a pencil and paper and write your Democrat legislators and let them know how you feel about them holding up the energy policy.

I know and I am not offended at all. I am not exactly the PC runway model here. But the DEMS cannot be civil so it is just one more thing we CAN do that they CANNOT.

Never liked King much, but he said a good thing here.

I agree. I heard this interview today on Hannity's show and couldn't believe I was agreeing with everything Peter King had to say!

Agree; would not trust Richardson on anything. I'd like to see someone ask him if he specifically told Clinton of a problem.

Bill Richardson did the same thing comparing our electrical system to third world countries. His self-serving "I told you so" rhetoric on Larry King Live and everywhere else all over the tube could have enflamed people's emotions.

I repeat what I shared earlier, voters have to be taking note of how democrats of all stripes are using this electrical black out for political advantage. Gebhardt, Hillary, Davis, Richardson are really putting themselves out there, and I think there will be payback.

By the way, Hillary was in her downtown New York office when the black out hit. I want to know how she got her fatass out of the city.

This "you could have caused riots" business is probably not news to her. Don't you think she wants riots to occur? To make Bush look worse? I'm glad her little intended prophesy didn't come true. And kudos to the people of NY and other cities who kept their cool.

Never liked King much, but he said a good thing here.

Not really when you read the very last sentence: "Even if she had been right," King continued, "that is not the time to send a divisive message". This RINO's approach has always been to straddle the fence.
