Is Personal Memoirs of U.S Grant signed by Ulysses Grant? Also, a first edition, dated 1885, contains two volumes. In bookselling, condition is everything. If there are watermarks, you can kiss the value goodbye. A first edition, 2 volume set in good condition is worth $400-500.
Your copy of Life and Voyages of Christopher Columbus is one volume of a three volume set and is not worth very much alone.

Thanks, Good information.
The Washington Irving books cover looks bad, but the U.S. Grant book is pretty clean.
Yes it is signed by U.S. Grant?

I have a copy of "Personal Memoirs of U. S. Grant" New York: Charles L. Webster & Company. 1885. Looks to be hand signed on May 23, 1885. Pink notes attached in book stating The Book is finished. Sold only by Subscription, then it lists pages of Subscriber's names, residence & style of binding chosen. The three types of binding are glued into the cover for samples. My great-uncle owned the new Uncle Sam, that was purchased by the gov't & converted into the "Blackhawk" that was used as the Flagship commanded by U. S. Grant in the battle of Vicksburg. My great-uncle was his pilot, Capt. George W. Stewart. Possibly this is a copy that belonged to him? Any ideas about this & possibly the books value? Thanks
